What an emotional episode. I struggled seeing Anya so upset & Xander go through the motions in this one. Weddings are cursed, i'm telling you haha. I will be so upset if Anya reverts back to her demon vengeance self & turns on the group. She's grown so freakin' much but she's hurting now & just wants to stop crying :( I CANT!

As a child of addicts, the sympathy I feel for Xander in this episode is hard to explain, but I can say that I definitely have noticed over the years the lack of empathy for what Xander is going through here from other people watching this show. It can be very hard for people from healthy families to understand the self-destructive, self-fulfilling-prophecy type of behavior that comes out of being a child of addicts, and the lifelong struggle it brings, but personally I probably felt more emotional about Xander in this episode than any prior.

2023-07-28 09:55:10 +0000 UTCfound wifi on the holliday to watch :). so yea... this is probably my least favorite episode of the series. its well written but it still drives me mad. others have stated it already, but i get where xander is comming from.with those parents and having experienced those visions he needs time. but that doesnt mee he handled it well. this is one of those episodes where you can understand everyones point of view (except you xanders dad... get fcked). but it Anya plays it too well. she just looks soo damn hurt and destroyed and it tugs at them heartstrings. good episode... glad its done with xD

At the lease he needed time to recover from the trauma experiencing the moment, the rage, the self-hatred, the violence, that he would have been feeling as he picked up that frying pan. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to take issue with Xander's character over the course of the show, but I will never see this as one of them.

I appreciate Xander's arc throughout the series, and I understand his fear in this one and how that led to him walking away, but I can never really forgive him for it.

2023-07-18 21:28:38 +0000 UTCI Think it's easier to understand Xanders reaction when you realise he didn't just watch these visions. He was put into them and was forced to think and feel all his worst fears first hand. It must have been a very traumatising experience. That coupled with having to spend time around his family which we know he normally avoids as much as he can forced his fears of turning into his Dad to the surface. Heartbreaking for Anya but as Willow says you can't feel hate for Xander over his actions as much as you feel you should.

A lot of people absolutely hate him after this and I could never bring myself to do that. Yes, his timing is horrendous and it's heartbreaking to see Anya. But I do believe it's for the best if one has serious doubts or fears. I've never been in this situation before but I did break an engagement once and it's really not an easy decision. Especially when you're "the bad guy".
