Buffy The Vampire Slayer 5x18

Please use one of the links at the bottom of this post to watch this video, thank you:

Hello All!

BuffBot has arrived guys!! Anyone else feel uncomfy or just me?? Hahaha. Spike was loving his life with this robot...until it would mention programming! He would rather die than give up Dawn though & that's what Buffy appreciates. The group were all tricked by the BuffBot, cant say I'm surprised with their track record haha. We finally saw the 1st slayer too & got hit with more vague info but info that's fun to speculate. Dawn stealing Anya's earrings was kinda sus & I worry something big is a brewing drawing closer and closer to the finale!

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy The Vampire Slayer 5x18

Comments

Trivia: Nicholas Brendon was sick during filming, so his twin brother (who we saw previously as the Xander double in 5x03) subbed in for a scene. Not sure which

Nicholas Corgan

@Brian, this entire comment had me rolling. It has to be one of my favorites.

Raven Dark

OMG, I completely forgot about you calling me out in this one, Dak. Heehee!

Raven Dark

If you want to give us a "gift" drop the next 4 episodes at the same time :) lol

Just the creepiness of the Buffy Bot: the files “locate Spike” “Make Spike Happy” with multiple kissing sub files and even more position sub files…. Good grief. 😳😬 Funny bit though, they wrote in the Buffy Bot pronouncing Giles name as “Guy-els” because they had people coming up to them saying how big of fans they were of the show but pronouncing his name as Guy-els. A 4th wall tiny dig at a small part of the fandom, kinda how Supernatural would do to the slash fans, but not as blatant 😂

I don't know how I forgot about this episode. This is probably the most uncomfortable I've felt in the whole series. Now let's just get the obvious out of the way first: If you could have a realistic-feeling, up for anything sexbot that was an exact replica of the person you most desire, but probably have zero chance with, you'd ask one question - cash only or can I charge it? The Buffybot cowgirl scene made me feel like when as a kid, that creepy uncle that you only see once a year gives you a very long hug and rubs your back too much as he does it. Tense and very uncomfortable. The scene that made me blush and gave me a bit of a quickened heart rate was the Spike/Buffybot implied-oral scene. If Buffybot had wiped her mouth, I would have switched it off and went to bed. I enjoyed the series "Charmed", but can you imagine if it had instead come out after Buffy ended as a spinoff starring Willow, Tara, and Anya? I would give up my realistic-feeling, up for anything sexbot to make that happen. The spiritual desert stuff was eerie and artsy. I quite like when the series does things like this. It's artistic and the cinematography was well done. Buffybot, make the sketches. Willow really is the heart of the show, and I look forward to your future reactions in the later seasons. I said this in a previous comment, but she's my favorite. How many women are gonna cowgirl Spike?! Calm down, Glory. Since I've been a huge fan of Tolkien since I was a child, I always assumed that the "I have a riddle for you, Precious." was a reference to "The Hobbit". Could be wrong, but I don't think so. I'd give that writer a flower. "But you should see him naked. I mean, really." Buffy's reaction to that was... interesting. Winds shifting? Seasons changing? Cowgirl coming? Poor choice of words in that last one. Spike's protective nature towards Dawn always makes me smile. And I forgot that Buffy, the real Buffy, kissed Spike. My heart swelled. Such a wonderful episode.

So nice to see you laugh again, my friend. Such a fun and wacky episode. 'Intervention' is a highlight of the season for me. The show has always done comedy so well, so it was refreshing to have a lighter episode again after that bit of heartache. SMG is brilliant in her dual role, and seeing that subtle shift at the end when Spike (and we) realize it isn't the robot talking to him is nicely played. It's a delight to see how pleased Anya is that Buffy(bot) was thoughtful enough to ask about her money; and the basic Scooby details in her programming - like Willow being recently gay, and Angel's hair going straight up and he's bloody stupid - gets a real laugh out of me. Tara continues to shine and it's wonderful to see her coming out of her shell more and more. With the mystery of the First Slayer's message, and Glory getting closer to the key it's going to be quite the ride ahead of us. Enjoy, and good luck... x

I love how you talked about the fact Buffy and the rest of the Scoobies are not perfect. For me it's one of the best aspects of the show. To many shows today have either perfect characters or evil characters and nothing in-between and no one feels like a real human. With Buffy the characters feel like real three dimensional humans. Even the Vampires like Spike and Angel are fully rounded characters not to mention the Big Bad's like the Mayor have layers . Life isn't black and white it's a thousand shades of grey and Buffy is one of the best shows to show that. I love SMG in this episode she does so well portraying both Buffy's and shows both her dramatic and comedic acting skills.

Collinson

Is it an uncomfortable episode? Yes. Is it a hilarious episode? Also, yes!

Julian Welton

Isn't this just a wonderful episode! A much needed one after all the heavy stuff we've been through with Joyce's death. Who would have thought that a creepy Buffybot would be so funny! Loved Spike's programming - 'How's your money?', 'You're recently gay'. 'Angel's lame. His hair goes straight up and he's bloody stupid.'

Jontor11

It's a fun little episode: and the little Spike/Buffy interaction at the end is certainly something to take note of.. but in retrospect it's reaaaally stretching credulity that none of the Scoobies figured that there was something a bit too "off" about "Buffy"

m.,

It always was a bit weird to me that the scoobies didn't notice anything wrong with her manerisms. I get why, and its hilarious, but a bit weird. I have to commend Sarah' Michelle Gellar's acting for both Buffy and the Bot. What spike did at the end though was solid, and you can see him thinking that over at the end. Death is buffy's gift aparently, have fun with that riddle... Tara is fun, and I love her quirkiness. The ability to love was clearly a subtheme of this episode in its various forms. This was a fun episode. A bit of levity before the finaly? Only 4 more this season :O.

Bart Aansorgh

SMG in Buffy is and will always be my favorite TV performance of all time, and this episode is one of the reason why, her Buffy bot is absolute comedic genius, it still amazes me 20+ years later.

Sonia

I can't explain why, but I absolutely love this episode!

Jack

Test? A developer/engineer testing? Clearly you don’t work in the field. 🤣

GaveUp

As sick and disgusting as it is to know that Spike had this BuffyBot made. It gets 1000 times worse when you realise that Warren would have had to test all the BuffyBot functions himself to make sure they were working properly 🤮🤮🤮

Matthew

All I can say is I can't wait for your reactions to the rest of the season.

Christopher simeon

I love SMG’s skill playing both herself and the Buffy Bot. That kiss always brings deep emotions and a tear to my eye. I can’t get enough of this episode or SMG’s performance. It’s a crime that she never got an Emmy award for this series.
