Cops near my work dress like Vikings and wear no quarter flags. I would say that every human being gets here through people giving them enormous amounts of laborious care and emotional support. Creating is so much harder and more dangerous than destroying. The only option I see is to bury CEOs who would extract more petroleum products alive. At the same time we need to support each other through a perilous transition away from extraction and towards a lasting balance with the rest of nature.

If you have a solid foundational understanding that the values they proclaim to stand for are not mapped onto actual values (as you understand them, ie, animating and informing your life), but mostly serve as flattering signifiers of what "kind of person you are in society" (ie, "a good, educated, thoughtful person"). Actually following through with those convictions - or follow them through their logical conclusion - is beside the point, and functionally not a real thing (in the sense that you can rely on "them" to follow through, or have anyone's back or whatever). You treat these people with the appropriate lack of expectation. It's like being mad at a kid for not following through on what they said. It's like, "yeah, no shit."

Furthermore, if you earnestly believed this, you probably wouldn't still be locked into worn-wheel-pattern-democratic bladeliblah of "so, because of that, here is why you still need to vote for the democratic candidate. It will help stave off the complete collaps of the US society". Basically, some people just have too much money that enables them to "have a second home" that they retroactively justify as apocalypse-insurance (which isn't a real thing; people would just shoot you and take your stuff. Your proof of purchase means nothing). It's a harmless thing in the grand scheme of things, but I seriously doubt that this person genuinely believed that a collapse will actually happen. Or he just never thought through how it would unfold.
