Premium 321: Heretore Unseen Forms of Malignancies

This week we open with a short discussion on the Alien franchise and new Alien film, and then go on to talk about a billionaire's venture into space, the DNC, and finally a Maureen Dowd profile of Palantir's CEO Alex Karp
Terrence. We DO have a Left Party running with the most ballot access. The Green Party. It may seem ‘cringe’ and they aren’t ’going to win’ but to not even invest the vote into building The Green Party as a 3rd Party whilst bemoaning the continuation of the 2-Party duopoly is exactly what the 2-Party want.

Bigger cities feel like more if a choose your own adventure but then we all seem to read and drink and speak similarly, simultaneously. But I do think living all together and seeing my neighbors all the time is like a balm. Maybe I remember this wrongly but I see similar things (on a smaller scale) frequently. If you remember the guy who threw smoke bombs and shot into a crowd on the subway. The lead photo still has smoke in the air. No one knew who the shooter was. He could have still been there as far as anyone knows. Every shot person has someone able to run away who is kneeling beside them helping. It isn’t perfect but I think living together helps us to relate to each other.

Every place I live shaped me. In an isolated small town I started to be able to literally see more shades of color in natural landscapes. But I also started to internalize sweating if people would gossip about my clothes at work and thought about necklines and weird clothing features. Felt like small towns bring out your inner busy body.

Yes, it feels like people I know who move to suburbs start to morph. After a decade or so they know the rest of us however we are described on tv. I don’t know if they would say they feel alienated but it makes my stomach hurt to think about.

Waymo cars “ In its announcement, NHTSA described incidents in which Waymo cars hit objects such as gates, chains or parked vehicles, or disobeyed traffic safety devices. It also noted publicly available reports of Waymo cars entering construction zones or driving toward oncoming traffic in the wrong lane.”

Sometimes I think you can overthink these grifts. I think they know there will never be cars that can do “full” self driving. Waymo is at level 4 out of 5 and I think Tesla is at 2 (although they both call themselves fully autonomous).

Never saw Alien: Covenant, but it seems like it was made in a lab to troll the Cinema Sins ding.
Ridley Scott is maybe the most head-injury-filmmaker for "religious allegory-movies".
His "dealing with religious themes" is like my niece hot-gluing two popsicle-sticks together and posing next to it, going "Eh? Reminds you of anything? Ok, let's break it down. I know this is pretty heady stuff. You see, this is an allusion to the cross Jesus died o.."

Most voting is pretty useless. The system is out of reach of capture. You could try to slow it down but you will be engaging in the same activity as trying to destroy it. Violence. And the state and system are both waiting for disaffected people to engage in such activities. Gaza should be a good example. But u will have to take examples from the palestinian, you will have to commit generations of resistance. So yeah punch your 3rd third vote, it safer than the actually solution.

I'm literally playing GTA 5 (for the first time) as I listen to this, and as annoying and embarassing as GTA's spoofs are, it's even more annoying to hear that the actual movers and shakers in real life are exactly this crude of a cartoon of themselves.
So the contractor to ICE is a curly-haired 56 year old quirk-boy who does Tai Chi and gets lost doing fridge poetry. Awesome.

One of the most prescient Elon Musk predicting novels is Moonraker by Ian Fleming
Edit: it's funny that I clarified the novel, when the Moonraker movie is literally about a guy doing eugenics so white ubermensch can live in outer space. The villain in the novel was an investor who got rich enough to start a private rocket company that works alongside the government. The villain, Hugo Drax, is an abrasive asshole who inexplicably attracts weirdo super-defensive fanboys. (The twist is that he's a Nazi)

Lucy McGillicuddy
2024-08-27 08:26:21 +0000 UTC
Surely no more of a waste than voting for the parties of capital and genocide, but could you explain why you think it's a waste? I'm probably missing something but it seems like if a significant number of people voted third party that could be a productive intervention in bourgeois electoralism.

FYI the factors of 18 thing isn't specifically Kabbalah but is just a standard Jewish tradition. The Hebrew word for "life" is "chai" (חי) which if you add up the numbers of the places in the Hebrew alphabet where the letters that spell that occur you get 18 (ח is 8 and י is 10). It's kind of fucked how that guy does it though because it's supposed to be for celebratory stuff like wedding gifts or donations to charities that help the poor...

Fun Ep.
I’m not trying to be disingenuous or contrarian but we’ve been genetically modifying and selectively breeding animals and plants since day one. I would argue that this is neutral to good. Peter Singer would disagree (mass torture of sentient animals for protein production and the destruction of biomes etc)
Also Musk was almost certainly talking in eugenics terms. So I’m not sure what my point is.

Tarence, you post a question of why Trump was able to congeal a movement while Bernie was left hanging. Part of me really believes that American physical geography and our built environment has something to do with it. We have built the most socially isolating landscape ever created within our suburbs. I am convinced no solid left base will form out of American suburban communities as long as they prohibit spaces where society happens and separate individuals and families into giant houses with giant tracts of land, bundled together and bordered by endless retail.

“People always have been and they always will be the stupid victims of deceit and self-deception in politics, until they learn behind every kind of moral, religious, political, social phrase, declaration and promise to seek out the interests of this or that class or classes. The partisans of reform and betterment will always be fooled by the defenders of the old régime, until they understand that every old institution, no matter how savage and rotten it may seem, is sustained by the forces of this or that dominant class or classes. And there is only one way to break the resistance of these classes, namely, to find in the very society surrounding us, to find and educate and organize for the struggle, those forces which can – and owing to their social situation must – form a power capable of sweeping away the old and creating the new.” –

Mass migration happens because the US empire and its proxy states destabilize countries through both economic and military warfare for that country’s natural resources for cheap. People flee because of this and try coming to the imperial core. Even a wapo journalist wrote about this recently
People like Karp know this and readily serve empire. They’re legit psychopaths who want people to languish and die for their profits. This country is run by complete sickos and spooks.
