Yooooo that Animal Planet special was wild. I'm shocked anyone remembers it!

former dem staffer from FL here. from my standpoint there is a class conflict internal to the democratic party which mirrors the broader social contradictions it tries to manage: 1) the class of settler sub/urban bourgeoisie and professional petit-bourgeoisie, who control the commanding heights of the party & the consultancies, and whose business ventures compel them to extract super-profits from colonized workers in a way that minimizes their personal guilt; and 2) the class of colonized proletarians who staff the bottom half of the Democratic political machine, e.g. party field staff & non-profit/PAC organizers, who are charged with brokering between #1 vs. their respective communities, and with placating those communities’ eventual disappointments trump presents a problem for this contradiction b/c, materially speaking, #1 is entirely predisposed to root for trump while #2 is predisposed to root against him. biden is the only candidate who can hold this coalition together with a kind of schroedinger’s racism — he’s the woke guy until he starts talking about his segregation buddies — and in a sick way while his degeneration worsens his qualities as a candidate, it also allows him to become an amorphous vessel upon which you can project whatever you want

//Friday For the whole "this is truly - no, seriously this time - the most important election in our life-times" to land in any meaningful way, you have to present a coherent strategy of "what you're going to do" in a time of probably unprecedented "activist judges" (supreme judges in particular). Democrats both can't and won't. Can't because the only way around it would be something like an equally "activist president" doing executive orders (to the extent that matters), which they have firmly internalized as gauche or Trump-like. ..."Won't" probably by the same token, but also because none of "this" is demonstrably real to them, so why do something that will only spark the question of "..so why haven't you guys done something like this about other stuff, before?" in people's imagination. There's probably never been a time where just your average american has been made more cognizant that true and more or less everlasting power is in Supreme Court decisions, as far as meaningful, broadswipe and radical political change lie. As long as that fact is highlighted and pinged in people's brain, it's going to be increasingly harder to run the same old spiel of "this election is the most important in your life, on account of what the guy who is the president, or is running to be the next president" says. ...obviously, way more so when the current election you're supposed to be emotionally engaged with, and nagged into caring about, is this much of a farce. You kinda can't open up the pandora's box of letting people see how much supreme court decisions dictate life in the US, and the subsequent lack of desire to actually even formulate a coherent strategy against that, from the political opposition. It's just going to be very difficult to beckon people back into buying your kayfabe-bullshit routine after that.

The problem with dems using AI is that the output of an AI model is dependent on inputs and dems don’t actually give a single fuck about input from the proles. You don’t really need an AI to say “second verse, louder and worse”

The overturning of Chevron is seriously crazy and has lots of roots in the Maine fisheries who have no idea how bad this will be down the line. I remember hearing rumblings about this back in February in conversations in the fishing community here and some of the celebrating that is happening here in Maine about the decision has me feeling reaaaalllly uneasy

Trixie

Thanks for the update. America is astounding from an outside look. I shouldn’t be surprised about being surprised. Poor thing, we love you Tanya. Keep the slop coming boys.

A dusty, corded rotary phone rings in the foreground, somewhere deep inside an opulent but unkempt Malibu estate. Light filters into the murky room through the slits in the closed blinds of the many windows along the far wall. Faint shuffling can be heard offscreen, slowly growing louder until -- the hand of the Minstrel from Minnesota, Bob Zimmer Man himself, reaches into frame and answers the call. His face remains obscured. "Hello?" .... "Ah, I was wondering when you'd drop me a line... Yeeah I saw the whole shebang the other night. Ya see, I have the CNN app on my Roku 4K Streamin' Stick.... Listen... we still have time to save this thing, but first, I need to ask..." A long pause. The dulcet call of a mourning dove seeps into the silence from outside. "Mr. Dyl--" Closeup: Bob's pencil mustache draped like an awning over the mysterious door of his mouth: "--How much do you know about nets?"

Please let the fates allow this!

It’s some lib 2020 style conspiracy shit. I mean, it’s truly wild and fascinating to witness. I’ve seen posts about him getting hit with the Havana Syndrome ray!

Sonicthunder35

Damn really makes you miss the days of bob and dave man

Marcus Matus

Yeah, it was wild. I saw some people online going full Q-brained, alleging (among other things) that CNN (!) rigged its lighting to make Biden look bad. Yeah, the lighting was unflattering, that was the issue, uhuh... all according to Putin's diabolical plan. For as bad as shit makes me feel sometimes, I don't envy being that lost in the void, unable to confront that reality is not living up to my weird, hagiographic view of... Biden, of all people. To those good loyal Democrats distressed by the debate, we should say, "What's there to worry about? You're blue *no matter* who, right? Keep the faith!" Though, now it looks like the knives are starting to come out after all, with Clyburn signaling he will support Harris as the nominee "if" it should come to that, Obama leaking private comments that are harsher than his initial "Bad Debate Nights Happen", etc. So I guess we'll see. Things could get weird yet! Bidenfam being sawed off from the party apparatus like a tumor, KHive ascendant, the Governors watching....

Andrew

Still not sure if the various and suspiciously ubiquitous message if "if Joe Biden was a corpse I'd still vote for him over trump" is a psyop but it absolutely is a psychic attack that's doing significant damage to me as of late

The True Horror

Gotta go with pigs. Just watch a shoat having a good ass time and you'll know there's some potential there.

Nick L

I think Trump has plenty of opportunities to die in wildly hilarious ways. The best is yet to come!

Laaren

I mean, it could also be a "in case of catastrophic emergency, break glass" thing, and it's just an envelope with a Welcome to Waffle House-flier inside. Like a "desperate times call for desperate stunts" type of deal.

Jesper Ohlsson

There's a Biden sign right across the street from me. A handful of Kennedy signs in my neighborhood. Several of those ugly ass 5 over 1 "luxury apartment" monstrosities are flying the biggest Trump flags you've ever seen but that's to be expected out of the petty tyrants that own them.

Lucy McGillicuddy

Trump should have gone out like Stan.

0% chance the Waffle House vid wasn’t a deepfake. They had that shit locked and loaded. Got the data from the debate and 25 Amazon servers rendering in real time. 15 minutes after we watch Joe blow a ghost for 2 hours, you really think that guy, talking about black people the way he did, has ever, would EVER be caught dead in a Waffle House??

Chapo has always branded nu metal as right wing

I was so gleeful watching Trump struggle to breathe in I’ve never wanted to see someone die more than for that week stretch

Future is Wild was my favorite show as a kid, probably rewatched that a dozen times. Fun fact tho, the main producer on it is trans, came out in like 2009, years after its release.

Baron

Gish Gallop sounds like some Galt's Gulch Ayn Rand bullshit.

Jesper Ohlsson

I’ve become an optimistic doomer these days. Like yes, everything is going to shit, but I’m going to do what I can to look out for my friends and try to hopefully rebuild.

Biden, on election night (he also loses). Trump, on the eve of his inauguration, either at or while eating McDonalds, following Blue MAGA Jan 6.

Andrew

Me too brother

Kellen Singer

The liberal intelligentsia and commentariat collectively peeping the Horror, looking at Biden the way Henry looks at the Baby in Eraserhead and says, with sudden realization, "Oh, you ARE sick...." -- and (totally rationally) freaking out -- and then somehow fully absorbing / unknowing it within a single day's news cycle -- is maybe one of the craziest and most crazy-making things I can remember witnessing in American politics. Any elation I had in the immediate wake of the debate has been replaced by this even deeper dread that I can't shake. These people scare me. My only hope is that the average normie is not so bewitched, and knows what they saw (if they saw it), and what it means. Or at least will carry it with them, until they know. *Files event under Hypernormalisation (Late American)*

Andrew

For Biden, the funniest is if it's the October surprise. For Trump, unless it's an especially comical situation, I dont think his future demise can possibly be as funny as it would've been if he'd died of covid so his will probably be a let down.

Richie A

I've seen one Trump and none for anyone else. In a barely blue rural county that usually goes around 55% Dem. In last two elections, it was like a sign war, Bernie Biden, Trump, Marianne signs everywhere last time. There were lots of thin blue line and punisher flags last year too. This year, lawn silence.

Richie A

Speaking of liberal spite of normal Americans: I loved Parks and Rec. I grew up in the south during the Tea Party libertarian reaction to Obama. I love a show that is a love letter to the commons and civil service. But every now and then, watching the show portray some dumbass fat local, I would think, "The showrunners hate us." There's also the episode mocking Venezuela as hyperauthoritarian. and the glorification of a libertarian in Ron Swanson. And the fact that the protagonist is canonically repeatedly debilitatingly horny for Joe Biden

Andrew Dunn

My favorite podcast of all time. Hope Tanya is doing alright we miss u

Alec

To show my true nerd self. I believe Biden will rule forever as a Warhammer 40k style emperor in some sort of stasis field throne that keeps him from physically dying though he remains unconscious. ... A thousand years from now and he'll be our god emperor with clerics and missions

Eric Murphy

Atlantic space junk piece goes really well with this ep… https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2024/06/satellite-big-one-low-earth-orbit-space-debris/678689/

So what is the funniest time for Biden to die? What about trump?

Laaren

do you think they knew that about the hitler broadcast back then? like the news guys doing the 50s voice stuff about fighting the nazis were broadcasting real hard out into space too like "we swear to god we are trying to kill those nazi guys"

luffa

I like the doomer episodes cause they make me feel not insane

Richard Cochnar

I’ve seen 2 Kennedy and 1 Trump. In the bluest city in my red state.

Richard Cochnar

Look at Aaron getting both episode titles this week!

Tanner

The only yard signs I’ve seen are for Kennedy - 2 of them in my neighborhood.

Kellen Singer

Possums. They got built in sacks for carrying things. Play dead and survive boys.

Jennifer Hammerhead

Alleycat Joe Biden on a fixed gear Cinelli, 49-16, no brakes, no lights, wide bars, ripping through Manhattan against traffic: “I won’t die!”

The squibbons would obviously evolve to have longer lifespans DUMBASS. Unsubscribed

Dogs also sploot!

Alexandra

I love these episodes because it makes me feel more sane. Also, for every one of these I know we're getting at least one Eric Cartman/Bob Dylan episode. Balance.

Jonathan Howard

I would rly recommend Ursula K. Le Guin's essay "The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction" !

I feel like there's been at least 5 of these "this is a disaster; an absolute dealbreaker", that's immediately followed by regrouping and about-face:ism. I think a really big contributing factor here is that the tight relationship with the political machinery of democrats and media means that you get a situation where they freak out internally, or the media freaks out internally, and then (as it benefits them) the political machinery regroups, put out some kind of spin and message, that then gets echoed (often with very little punch-up) by media. ...and then, what happens is that the machinery will look at "what media is saying", and go "right, see, they're all saying this is a temporary thing, we have the momentum, whatever" and just kinda completely forget that this analysis/spin was originally seeded by themselves, internally, as a try to save the perception of a total disaster. Obviously, this kind of thing happens to basically all political groups to some extent, but I think the democrats are so incredibly big, and so closely aligned with media - and "coms" is more or less their bread and butter; messaging is mostly what they have in lieu of ideas or beliefs - that it manifests particularly strong with them. ...and I do genuinely believe that some of them actually do think that "this fortunate swing in opinion" is something that's happening as a result of fair-minded analysis by media, or that they did something on their end to organically win people back again, when it's actually a case of hearing your own echo, and thinking you're talking to another person (..to use a kinda strained metaphor). They're basically doing Trump's "people are saying, more and more" with more steps. This kind of more or less closed-loop back and forth works really well if you're a very big and powerful party that wants to continue doing what you've always been doing. It's really bad if you want to develop a finely tuned sense of identifying coming disasters (and cultivate the self-critical skills that's needed to avoid them by acting in time).

The "gish gallop" is often associated with Ben Shapiro.
