I was acquainted with a local business owner who tried to have her ex killed several years back. We chatted a handful of times each week. She was a veteran and tried to work with a buddy who had posted videos of himself pissing on corpses in Afghanistan and he went to the cops. They made the victim stage his own death. Her name’s Laura Buckingham, she got probation lmao

Responding to comments on Palestine/primary contradiction across a couple recent episodes: I think it can be potentially helpful to recognize the struggle against white supremacy as the “central immediate task” of the American working class. This is straight from the Noel Ignatiev book I’m reading, but I think he’s right to say that, given the role of white chauvinism in holding back the working class of this country, the American proletariat *must first* attack white supremacy in order to create the conditions for successful struggle. If we recognize these recent protest movements as examples of this very fight, a new coherence emerges in both the activities of the protestors and especially in the heavy-handed response of the state. That Anti-Zionism is exploding in the United States is an indication of a new internationalist dimension to working class struggle against white supremacy. This is both extremely hopeful and suggests that on some level the state recognizes the gravity of this threat to their power, perhaps even more than we do. “The antagonism between the proletarians of England (English and Irish) is artificially cultivated and maintained by the bourgeoisie. It knows that in this antagonism lies *the real secret of maintaining its power*” -Karl Marx, 1869

First funeral I went to was in NW Oklahoma where my uncle was buried in a crimson OU polo, white OU ball cap, and brown sunglasses. I thought polos were standard funeral attire until I was maybe a teenager

This article argues that Tolkein fucked with Stuart Hall's career because he's racist, which is a really serious accusation, and so it's concerning to see all that Hall or Tolkein said about the incident was that Tolkein turned him away from medieval studies bc Hall wanted to do literary criticism --- a method Tolkein was opposed to as a philologist/linguist. But this article tries to turn this into a smoking gun of Tolkien's egregious racism, which it simply is not, especially when you consider he opposed aparthied and nazism. They also frame his description of the old eng word for Ethiopia as his personal opinion on black people, which again is just willful misrepresentation.

“Every person I’ve met who is obsessed with serial killers is a woman.” Well, now, it might might be time to read Mr Dave McGowan - Programmed to Kill (book to make you sick and twisted)

It's time to start reverse make-a-wish where we take random middle aged men and pair them with a dying kid to do something cool. Like drugs, for instance.

Nicholas J Skradski

the most fucked up thing would be to name ur newborn son SID

FamilyGorgeous

I live in Lexington too, and recently got a book titled "Hinterlands" by Jerrell Goodpastor (if anyone doubts the origins of hobbit names), and it is full of trails and campsites in and around Red River Gorge that I've never heard of. Highly recommended for this endeavor.

Brad Gosser

tarence would either really love or really hate House of Leaves

y'all are killin' it with the gilded age radio voice, no notes 💯

Unrelated, but I need to thank Tom for dropping gems like, “shit stupid” and “dog ass”. Really helping me as a little spice to my coaching

William

This one felt like a return to years gone by.

I said something similar to my family. Wrap my body up in an old carpet and throw me out of the back of a speeding van.

Re Hall + Tolkien, is Tarence thinking of the story told here from Hall's autobiography? https://daily.jstor.org/the-question-of-race-in-beowulf/

Maxwell Gray

dude im losing my shit to tarence’s cartman. can we get a whole ep in that voice please

gorgeous montana

Tarrence! You should read Saving Beauty by Byung-Chul Han. It's about how smoothness ruined all art.

Anders Olsson

Also, unfortunately, exorcist 3 fucking rocks

David Brown

William Peter Blatty (the author of exorcist and legion) directed Exorcist 3. He was also in the CIA during Vietnam and was part of Operation Wandering Soul, where the US military blasted sounds of Vietnamese "ghosts" in an effort to get the Vietcong to expose themselves and get killed.

David Brown

Wonder if Oldham County’s finest Knocked Loose wrote a song about Dr Russell on their new album

Dame

I don't know what I was expecting, but I was truly unprepared when I watched "Kirstie Alley tells Barbara Walters about her mother dying in blackface." You can see Walters actively tense up when Alley mentions that they got in a car crash on their way to a Halloween party. You can see her thinking, "is this going to be antisemitic or racist, do I stop her before she goes any further?" It's subtle

Alexandra

Can’t wait to surrender my wages to the Trailbillies tier

Dame

LMAO when Tom almost walks out

Ceruleania

I listened to this last night as I was going to bed and started laughing so fucking hard at Tarence talking about nettles that I woke Alex up. I would 100% pay for a trails series.

Dunning Kruger Escape Plan

This episode has nearly gotten me fired because I laughed way too hard at giving PCP to a make a wish kid

See, I associate polo shirts with that specific type of middle-aged manager type avec tucked in polo, khakis, wrap around sunglasses and cell phone holster. And as I slowly creep towards middle age, I can't be associated with those people.

Guy Incognito

Pretty sure that catcher in the rye became infamous because one or two serial killers happened to own it. That's the whole thing.

if only the profs had given speech and accents to all the species i had to commit to memory back in the days of yore... 100% support launching the meditative tier.

nonjabidness

BTW Tarence there were loads of articles about middle earth having a racial hierarchy around the time the movies came out. In online sci-fi communities at the time it was tiresomely ubiquitous. There's even a whole wiki page summarizing the discourse ("Tolkien and race"). You might find your article there in the sources if you havent looked there already.

Richie A

The stinging nettle voice had me laughing so much as I did my chores, thank you guys.

The Sound of Disruption: Bob Dylan's Echo in the American Landscape In the annals of American cultural mythology, there exists a figure both enigmatic and ubiquitous, whose mere utterance can summon the zeitgeist of a generation. Bob Dylan, a name weighted with the echoes of protest, poetry, and paradox, stands as a testament to the enduring power of artistic disruption in the fabric of society. To understand Dylan is to unravel a tapestry of contradictions, woven with threads of authenticity and artifice. His voice, a rasping lamentation against the conformity of the status quo, reverberates through the corridors of time, carrying with it the restless spirit of an era defined by turbulence and transformation.

Andrew Ryan Kirksey

Damn Terance's stinging nettle impression really came out of nowhere

also, the antidote for stinging nettles is jewel weed, which usually grows close to nettles. it looks similar but has a square stem. and doesn't sting you. lol

Rae Rae

sounds like you two are doing a contest to see who can best impersonate william burroughs. These are the best episodes.

Feedbag

as someone who works in a state park, I'm 110% down for trail talk

Rae Rae

I always say I want to be roadkill when I die, just thrown on the side of the road fully tatted with anti-America tats and the only person who has responded with anything other than you're nuts is a friend from TN who used to work at a morgue and was 'I can make that happen'

Aw hell yeah

They are for sure the perfect representation of Lexington society and I mean that pejoratively
