Premium 277: The Loosie Economy

We talk about the weird proto-incest Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has with his son; how the media has seemingly decided Biden is cooked in 2024; Aaron's trip to D.C. for the Palestine protest; the military industrial complex; and many many other things mostly related to Israel/Palestine

Maybe I'm underplaying Tarrences ability to control the flow of conversation but we sure did sweep away quickly from Toms story about cleansing the family computer with bleach...I could stand to hear more frankly. Had me wheezing.

Two things about Trillbillies 316 on the main feed: When Haley asked, “whose economy?” it reminded me of Kim Kelly’s recent appearance on Citations Needed: “For most of us the economy is a bludgeon, it’s not a tool. It’s not something in which we engage: it’s something we try to survive.” Also, I think about Ruth Wilson Gilmore’s concept of organized abandonment by the state when Josh mentions how these hollowed-out communities can be susceptible to nationalist and fascist organizing, and how important it is to understand and conceptualize not only how disastrous and harmful the effects of late-stage capitalism continue to be. Acts of solidarity like the Louisville Tenants Union is evidence that we can all be a part of the making of a better world. It brought to mind this Grist article from May of this year: https://grist.org/extreme-weather/boots-on-the-ground-fema-oath-keepers-natural-disaster/ As shit gets worse, the Oath Keepers are beginning to fill this vacuum with CPTS (community preparedness teams) which “provide volunteers with medical, disaster, and fire safety train”, and as well as radio communications, “how to prepare for electrical outages, plant a garden, and keep warm in freezing conditions” in response to climate disasters and as proxies for indoctrination and recruitment.

The point that the dems won’t ever admit that they’ve been supporting apartheid, that through “the process of democracy have facilitated colonial projects”, is such an important point. The unraveling that would happen with that acknowledgment is so massive they’d rather take everyone down with them. Eyeopening to me. I work in a very liberal space and the silence has been stark. I am gonna use my Patron privilege to nudge y’all to read Doppleganger by Naomi Klein. Came out a few months ago but damn is it prescient in my opinion. And I see so much overlap between what y’all are saying and what she wrote.

You guys are helping preserve whatever sanity I have left. Thanks to Aaron for reporting in on the protest. His update brought me to tears. Solidarity forever- truly.
