All the Presidents' Children

This is the longest video I have ever edited since my Alaska road trip documentary, which I made in 2011 (not counting livestreams, of course). Needless to say, this one got crazy, and it could have gotten even crazier since there are a bunch of accomplishments by many of the Presidents' children that I left out.

I hope you have a wonderful New Year! I have big plans for 2021. In fact, there will likely (hopefully) be a new chapter on the horizon for me this year, and your support on Patreon is a HUGE part of that. Thank you so much!

I reuploaded since I had to make a few changes to the video. Here is the new version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEDVlrbClBE

That is interesting. I think in more modern times this has become an either or. Anyone who names their child after themselves makes them a Junior by default, but they will offten call the offspring "II", or "the second". I am a "III" which means I was named after both my grandfather, and my father. Had I died as an infant, and my younger brother been given the the same name, he still would be the third? Or would he be JR, III, or maybe "III, III", or "the third, the third"?

Happy New Year Gael! Yeah I loved digging in with the research for this one. It's just so fascinating how far we have come both culturally and with medical technology.

Mr. Beat

lol dang parents

Mr. Beat

I never thought of that--we can all blame our parents for how we look! Hahah!

Thanks for this video Mr. Beat! interesting topic! So much information! I had to keep rewinding to catch it all. Would be interested in more details about President's families. Great topic! Have a Happy New Year!

Thank you! Yeah it looks like I slipped up. I might just re-record it and re-upload it, especially since the sponsor might still want changes.

Mr. Beat

Uh, yeah, what Betulaphobe said. :)

Mr. Beat

The way I understand the naming tradition is as follows: You get the designation II or III (hereafter written as 2nd or 3rd) if you share the same name as someone previously in your family, but you are NOT their direct child. For example, if you are given the same name as your grandparent (but different than your parent), you would be X the 2nd. I actually have a friend for whom this is the case. "Jr." is a special case given to children with the same name as their parent. So, when FDR named a second son with his same name, he was BOTH a Jr. (same name as his parent) and a 2nd (because there was someone else with the name [X Jr.] previously in his family, but he is NOT that person's child).

Betulaphobe

Can someone explain how there was an FDR Jr, II. Isnt that redundant?

Awesome video! Really interesting seeing how many presidential children have become ambassadors (or held other positions) in future administrations. One question, though: right after the 24-minute mark, did you mean to say 4 years instead of 8?

Betulaphobe

Yay, I absolutely love videos like this. Thank you so very much, Mr. Beat. Cheers!
