Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 2x01

Hello All!

Season 2 is here!! I'm so excited!! What a way to kick it off too. I felt S1 one vibes with an added twist BUT I was NOT a fan of this 'new Buffy' I'm glad that was dealt with in this episode. I can see why she would react this way, I just wish that she didn't, I don't like seeing her struggle :( she went through a lot last season & her being back home now seems to be testing for her. I do believe she will find comfort in her friends & Sunnydale again soon!

I hope to see you all for my end of season discussion video & then the start of season 2!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 2x01

Comments

Pretty decent premiere. Seeing Buffy struggle with her fate and job as the chosen one. She really can’t have a normal life…

The Buffy dancing with Xander scene was incredibly uncomfortable to watch. Nicholas Brendon played that scene really well, you could feel both the internal conflict and the incredible uncomfortableness of Xander when Buffy was doing that to him. Anthony Stewart Head's acting in the scene where Buffy is working out too hard is excellent as well, just that look he gives, like Giles knows right there that something isn't right. Honestly not one of my favourite Buffy episodes, I rank it a solid midling range, but there are little moments throughout this episode where the acting is just fantastic.

One thing I have always loved about Buffy is that the characters are written like actual people. Xander, for example, he's a teenage boy and he's written like a teenage boy; he's sometimes insensitive, immature, he says and does some really dumb things, like teenage boys in real life often do. It also means he has room to grow as a character, instead of being a 2 dimensional cut out like I think, sadly, some more modern presentations of characters can be.

I am so happy that we have started season 2. This Buffy train is so much fun.

First off loved the chair drumming probably my favourite so far 😀 straight off the bat buffy was so out of character and I recall feeling wtf going on the first time I saw this and again this time classic trauma I'm scared I can't protect you so I push everyone away syndrome but thankfully she came to her senses in the end with some damn fine hammer smashing the kid was none to happy about that lol, you also spotted that wasn't the real buffy fighting 🙂 I guess sometimes the stunt doubles just don't do such a great job but none the less an enjoyable start to season 2 and onwards we go 👌 thanks as always for everything you do for us much appreciated 💙

There's a lot of parallels between Buffy and Dean in this episode. Buffy goes through traumatic event end of season 1 and doesn't handle it well, and resolves it by smashing Master bones. Dean goes through traumatic experience end of season 1/beginning of season 2, becomes very defensive the next episode and partly resolves it by smashing a car window and the trunk of Baby... This episode is so cringe to watch because of Buffy's attitude, but I understand her reaction even more so now than I did when I first watched it. I'm excited to continue on this journey with you, I can't wait for you to reach particular eps (not saying what eps they are lol) I'm not sure if you noticed with the dancing but David Boreanaz is now in the title sequence...

Every time I see Christophe Beck's name I smile, because his name always reminds me of Buffy!

I liked this season premier. Seemed to set things up for another interesting season story. One thing that I hesitation on liking was the Buffy/Angel relationship. For one thing, he's waaaaaay older than her and she's just a teenager - so that's a bit cringy. But it's tv. But still. For another, seemed like his being in love with her happened pretty fast. I can see Buffy being enamored - as a teenager and given the situation, etc. But how did this falling in love actually happen. It just felt flopped into place for me, without the buildup you'd usually see. I actually started to like Cordelia in this episode. Seeing more of her overall personality. She's unapologetic about it too. Her advice to Buffy was pretty interesting and just made me wonder more about Cordelia.

Michele

Ok one thing i have to point out. These kids are teenagers and many people forget that. Teenagers are not known for their smart decision making or self control. Hormones control most of their decision making. Xander is not trying to hurt willow at all. He is the most emotional driven of the scooby gang. If you asked him who he cared about more buffy or willow that threat to buffy life this episode made it clear. He is very flawed and that is because of how much emotion he has. Everything is up to eleven for him. When he likes he really likes when he is upset he threatens to kill and when he is horny he flirts with whoever is available. Thus is the life of a teenage boy. I am not trying to defend his actions but as a former teenage boy we do not always think with the right head if you know what i mean.

I really love this episode. It serves as a statement from the writers that trauma is not forgotten and it will shape our characters moving forward. As DB noted above, Christophe Beck was hired on to score the show. He’s a pretty big name now in the movie/tv show composer realm (Frozen 1 and 2, Pitch Perfect, several Marvel properties including the most recent Hawkeye and Wandavision). You’ll notice a nice upgrade in the score of the show this season. He’s a big reason why Buffy’s scene smashing the Masters bones is so effective. Also the fight choreography also got a nice boost already. Yeah stunt people can be a bit obvious sometimes but we can ignore that right? Lol. I love that you commented on how emotional you were one minute and then laughing the next. That’s one of the best things about this show it blends the drama and comedy so well. Cant wait for the rest of the season!

Xander in 1x12: "I want to dance with you" everybody watching 2x01: NOT LIKE THAT. It rarely registers with the viewers now but ahhh Cibo Matto <3 Buffy was bringing in some really great bands! You can briefly see Sean Lennon (John and Yoko son) playing bass there. And I just love that Alison Krauss song. Such a good cry song. Talking about music this is I think the first episode that Christophe Beck scored (tho I'd be very surprised if he did that last classroom scene ;)). I know for sure he scored that scene where Buffy smashes Master's bones, he's got a very distinctive sound imo. He won an Emmy for Buffy's music, a ton of other awards for various tv shows and films and I think he's currently nominated for an Emmy for Wandavision.
