Sam, Dean and Rowena messed up this season. Early on, Lucifer was an issue. BUt look at what we saw from Lucifer this season, he was mortal, for a bit. Gained perspective. He didnt kill Aniel. Even though there were plenty of times the Old Lucifer would have. And we find him in a bar regretting how he has done things. Then in the other world, he began to try to bond with his Gabe, sided with the Winchesters when it came to rescuing people. Told his son about doing the right thing isnt always doing the right thing. I think Lucifer was beginning to redeem himself. Then Rowena pushed and pushed him, hurting his feelings while he was already at a low spot. Then sam betrayed him and left him behind to die after Gabe died. When Sam did that, Lucifer reverted back to saving himself because Sam showed him that changing is pointless when no one likes you. Had sam helped him up and carried him through the portal, Lucifer may have been on the road to be an ally and may have helped Cass and Jack rebuild heaven... Sam, Dean and Rowena caused the issues Lucifer did in the following episodes..
