Humans are Builders
Added 2018-05-08 17:29:21 +0000 UTCIt never ceases to amaze and sadden me that people can talk about the human race like it's a bad thing. I acknowledge that there are bad people. But decriers of the human race use especially visible bastards who blow up individual buildings as evidence of how awful people are, without counting the teens of thousands of buildings that still stand-- in fact, without ever once considering the noble and unacknowledged men and women responsible for constructions those buildings. If the destruction of a building by a singular jerk is a bad thing, then the construction of one, by people working together faithfully and energetically can at least be acknowledged as good. By the sheer number of buildings that stand, we can assume that the overwhelming majority of humans would rather create than destroy. It's a narrow example, of course. Only a fraction of people are in construction. But every industry is like this. The world we live in moves so smoothly, because people work together. Sure, there's friction. Sometimes disagreements. Occasionally irreconcilable differences. But the knee jerk reaction to these things is, for each of us, to restore a harmony. It's unfortunate that many of these attempts are short sighted or selfish ("Do your job!" "Are you an idiot? You don't just throw shit together!" "Your mashed potatoes are boring me to death! And I'm English!") but the goal of these interactions is to get the job done correctly, keep the work flowing smoothly, generally just to make things go right. We can all do better; human nature is to learn and progress. We just have to, every day, remind ourselves that the screaming guy isn't always a jerk, he's having a shitty day, that everyone suffers, and that people aren't villains, just people. Every human has an experience unique from others, and the loss of one of us is a loss to us all.
