All the elements that make up steel are present in intergalactic space, and might have been produced in a star that was burning out, providing the heat to make the elements alloy with one another. But as Fay pointed out to me once, the iron in our blood, the iron in the Eath's core, was created the same way. The entire Universe is the Lady's Forge.
