Im gonna have to upscale this so ot can lift ducttape and a pilot, plus an parachute valve. I made a small scale version a while back, it never really worked, I used scotch tape which I didnt think added too much mass, but watching this, I can see its clearly an issue.

2024-02-17 06:26:01 +0000 UTCGreat video! Several decades ago I built smaller versions of this from ultrathin garbage bags for my kids' elementary school. I did the solar powered part outside as a demo, but then brought the kids into the gym where I handed out pre-built balloons built from 3-bags taped together. The balloons were open at one end and I set up several heater stations (a mix of hair dryers and small space heaters turned up in metal buckets) that the students could use to fill their balloons with hot air. The balloons would rise to the ceiling of the gym and the kids had great fun. I did some safety testing first to make sure the balloons wouldn't ignite even if held against the hair dryer/heater openings, but to be extra cautious I also put grills on top of the buckets so keep the plastic away from the openings and monitored the heating stations.
