Good question... The lampblack I brought back from Japan was certainly made with a different type of pine than what I've used at home, and it does burn differently in a senko hanabi. I question if the difference in burning is because of the type of pine, or if it's the method of collecting the lampblack. I bet the species matters less than other factors, such as the temperature of burning. The hotter the lampblack gets when it's made the less oils will remain in it, making it closer and closer to pure carbon which would not differ from carbon from any other source, besides being in a low density form. Some oils are beneficial to remain behind for use in fireworks which is what makes pine lampblack special compared to lampblack from fossil fuels. I guess all that to say, I don't know.

Does the species of pine matter to the resulting Lampblack?
