History of a Lost Supermaterial & How To Make It

Here's a much requested update to my video on homemade Starlite posted in late 2018.

I haven't decided if I'll post it to the public tomorrow or on Sunday, but in either case I hope you enjoy the early preview and opportunity to make the first comments!

Thanks!

That's cool to know!

Ablative cooling is still used today for atmospheric entry shielding on spacecraft. The SpaceX Dragon is an example of present day use. Also, ablative cooling has been used for decades as thermal protection for rocket engine nozzles. It's very simple and inexpensive compared to regenerative cooling. This is used on present day engines like Rocket Lab's Rutherford engine and the Aerojet Rocketdyne RS-68 engine. Looking up their specs they ofen talk about "phenolic" materials in the shields. Seems like you've nailed it!
