Tex, Please save voice as needed. I hope you and everyone else are getting the rest you need following the Black Knight, which I must re-iterate was an absolute success. You have spoken in the past about how profoundly Dune has impacted you, and differently each time you have read it. I am now reaching the end of Chapterhouse, and am wondering if I should continue to Hunters and Sandworms, as my research indicates they were written using Frank Herbert's notes, but that many people consider them a sharp departure from his original themes and storytelling style. You mentioned at one point that everyone has their own take on what the "real" Dune story is. How some people say it only the first book, some people say it only what Frank Herbert himself wrote, ect. My question is: What is your personal take on it? Where do you draw the line on what the "real" story of Dune is? For myself, I found it difficult to remain invested after the death of Leto the 2nd and the massive time skip, as we were suddenly introduced to a completely new cast and expected to get invested in them with no prior association. In the spirit of you speaking about your multiple takeaways from the story, what currently occupies my thoughts is how prescience is a curse that robs you of the joys of life. That people always think they want it until they have it. I have even implemented it in table top games, where I recently had an NPC tell a player they would not answer a question in order to not "rob them of the joy of finding out" and refence Dune as an example. I very much like forward to the Traveller documentary. It brings me deep joy to see one of the oldest table top games that has brought so much art and creativity into the world being treated with such respect and reverence. Is there any estimated timeline for the more in-depth content on the Re-Unification Wars, or is that not being considered until after the Traveller documentary is released?

2026-01-31 13:23:09 +0000 UTCTex, please save voice. I was curious about your thoughts on using AI to actually save your voice (in a sense). I heard awhile back that Drachinifel had created a language model of himself. He wanted a fallback so he could still narrate his channel in case of accident. Given your health issues, do you think creating something like a "Tex Inferior," could have merit, at least in the draft process so you don't have to record the same dialogue for every take, or to prevent straining yourself during long days after work when you'd rather stream.

2026-01-30 06:25:02 +0000 UTC+1 to this suggestion, but there are _so_ many battlemechs to cover. I fear that we can only look forward to a few dozen more TTBs.

2026-01-29 10:33:35 +0000 UTCJust finished listening to the BPL Intermission Ep 6 while driving home and was pumped up by the outro music. Who is the artist? I feel like I need to explore more of their catalogue.

2026-01-29 10:25:12 +0000 UTCGood morning Tex, thank you for the answers to my questions on the Trek RPG and the wrestling game. From your answer, it seems that you have not heard of the Wrestling Federation Simulator. It is https://www.fedsimulator.com/ and it seems like something that you might like. Keep up the great work, and I will continue to enjoy being on this ride you and your team are conducting.

2026-01-26 00:49:25 +0000 UTCH'lo Tex, please save your voice from this nonsense. *ahem* "AI" I think this thing is being misrepresented, part and parcel of 'The Internet' and it's ability to strip nuance away from any conversation. "AI", can be very helpful, useful, even vital. "AI" is also terrible, awful, no-good, a really bad thing that needs to be burned and the ashes mixed with salt and then cast into the wasteland. How can these both be true? Because "AI" is not "AI" is not "AI". "AI" as in what popular culture envisions with the term, stuff like HAL or Skynet or Data from TNG or what is known in the nerdiest of computer-science nerdspheres as 'General Artificial Intelligence'... is still a pipe-dream. There are no indications that we are any closer to creating a truly sentient, sapient artificial mind today than we were when Lt. Cmdr Data's love life was relevant to the legalization of slavery in the UFP. So... the current hullabaloo about AI is Not about this. "AI" has been considered a useful term for non-'thinking' decision-engines pretty much since digital computers became ubiquitous. We still refer to the ones and zeros that tell a video-game NPC when the perfect time to bitch at us about their knee problems will be as "AI". So... the current hullabaloo about AI is Not about this. "AI" 'Tools', things using neural-network computing for specific and narrowly-defined tasks, are incredible and have been used for everything from folding proteins to diagnosing cancers with remarkable accuracy for decades now. This is known, proven technology. So... the current hullabaloo about AI is Not about this. "AI"; as it currently is relevant as a term for what has gotten people, as my grandmother would say, "All Het-Up Ab-bauht." ...is not Any of the things that I've listed above. The closest thing would be the neural-networks described previously, BUT... those tools use limited, specialized models being fed specific and carefully curated training data and used for very narrow use-cases. The 'Large Language Models' that OpenAI, Microsoft, Nvidia and almost every other bigwig in 'Big Tech' is pushing all their chips to the middle of the table over are Not That. They are broad-purpose 'tools' intended for much broader use-cases than the technology was ever intended to handle and so they do it badly. They still have issues with the training getting these models to pick-out accurate data and not '50% Guessing correctly and 50% Lying with confidence', and when one of these bots starts saying 2+2=5 you pretty much have to scrap it and start over as no amount of correction will expunge the hallucinations. This is why Google is pretty-much useless now as most of what it shows you is bad summarizations of bad summarizations of bad summarizations and it's only getting worse as the models run-out of legitimate data and start feeding on their own slop. It's only going to get worse, "AI" in this context is just 'the next big thing' for tech-bros after Cryptocurrency and NFTs played-out and they're all-in on the sunk cost fallacy. None of it generates profit even with all the creative accounting shenanigans going-on that mean we can't get decent RAM at fair prices anymore. The Data-Centers coming online to service this 'emergent technology industry' have done nothing to improve anybody's lives and only drive-up the cost of water and electricity in the general area. I'm sure you've noticed how on Youtube your movies are competing more and more and more with nominally identical channels spitting-out nominally identical content presented behind very sus-looking thumbnails. Every time one comes up in my feed I hit 'do not recommend channel' only for a dozen more to take that one's place. That was a lot of words, all springing-forth from a human meat-brain pretending to be a recreational attack sheep on the internet. Hope this has helped in some way. But if you're still on the fence and wanting to be 'fair and balanced' towards the current AI craze, consider this. When any of our favorite physicians finally retire, the ones who will replace them are going through medical school Right Now using ChatGPT to write papers that will be graded by Microsoft CoPilot. Have an amazing day.

2026-01-25 06:08:26 +0000 UTCI would love all of the ones up to the Catapult redone, and perhaps a deep dive into Tukayyid like the Twycross episode. But But there are so many new things to look at (King Crab, Javelin, Merc outfits, etc)

2026-01-24 23:47:49 +0000 UTCGβDay Tex Catching up on past pods and last week you mentioned the Fallout TV series. I was a player of 1 & 2, brought 3, but that was years after it came out and after the constant crashes I gave up. Only recently did I start playing New Vegas, and I was surprised how good is was compared to how reviled 3 and 4 appear to be. You were right about White House Plumbers, and Justin Theroux was amazing in it. Him as Mr House, looks like I will have to pick this up. I will be judging you on this of course, please donβt let me down sir π Also, it was 42Β°C (107Β°F) in Melbourne yesterday, we got warm covered. So, the exact opposite problem, stay cool Melbournites (and all Aussies) Keep on keeping on.

2026-01-24 23:45:00 +0000 UTCTex, have you thought about looking at some of the older TTBs, like what was done with the Urbanmech? I imagine that would be a fairly cheaper and quicker way of getting content out at a reasonable cost. The Timberwolf and Atlas come to mind for me in this regard.
