It depresses me to see how 160 plus years of science fiction from Frankenstein, to I have no mouth and I must scream warned again and again the dangers of creating artificial life forms and yet we’ve done it anyway in the form of AI. We’ve sacrifices the essence of this life that is the basis for beautiful creation as catharsis for comfort and easement of daily life. I’m so disheartened by this it actually made me want to quit writing more than anything ever has. Genuinely, this trend and the morons cheering for it has done more to dissuade me from finishing my work than any criticism from even my worst enemy ever could. Not for fear of competing with the machine but rather the idea that one day humanity will have lost so much of their humanity and taste for art that comes from the human mind, that even if I got published, it would be like giving a home cooked meal to a kid that was raised on fast food. Even bad art made by the human mind has a charm to it. AI will deprive humanity of that on some level. Just like how when we made cars more complex so that we lost that bond to our vehicles forged through fixing them. Anyway. Sorry to be such a downer. Life threw me a hell of a curve ball and I’m feeling shitty. Looking forward to the Black knight and always a joy to listen to the playthroughs you and the guys do for Arcanum.

2025-06-20 11:28:40 +0000 UTCGood evening Mr. Tex. Just wanted to share that I've started running a Magistratum Mundanus game. The players are an out of touch Noble Adept from a military family. A tech Priest that doesn't know how to people, a taciturn Guardsman whose goal in life is to use a pistol and a chainsword at the same time, and a Ministorum choir boy that says very brutal things while smiling innocently. For their first day on the job, they nearly escalated a routine minor car accident into a firefight. And for their second call went to investigate a noise complaint. The noise complaint was a ranting lunatic who I made as obvious as I could without spelling it out was a nascent Psyker that had only recently awoken his powers, and now thought he was the Emperor's Chosen instrument of death to His enemies. My favorite line from the whole interaction is 'this apartment doesn't have air conditioning, SO WHY IS IT SO COLD!?' The Guardsman put the pieces together and surreptitiously told the rest of the group, so the Adept asked the literal raving lunatic if he'd developed powers. To which said lunatic responded by making a small sun appear in his apartment. Unfortunately this caused a Perils, the choir boy reflexively dumped four barrels of buckshot into the Psyker's chest at point blank, due to the power the Psyker had going, he actually survived up until hit number 5. But 6 killed him and hit number 7 (gotta love the scatter weapon property) turned him into giblets. The perils caused the Adept to gain 10 points of Corruption and the Bloodthirst malignancy. So now he continually mutters about 'Blood for the Emperor' and 'Skulls for the Golden Throne.' And that was meeting one. Fuck, I love Dark Heresy. So far, the thing that has caused me the most pride, is that the players said they were genuinely creeped out and afraid by my portrayal of Kolm. The Lovecraft fan in the group telling me that he felt like he was speaking to a mechanical Other thing. Thanks for reminding me I love roleplaying games, it's been a while since I've been able to force myself to put in the effort to play one. I just wanted to share. Keep on keeping on, and stay safe out there.
