Collector's Boxes

Yesterday I received a Black Roses Edelrot Collector's Box sample. A good time to share a few details about the collector's boxes with you. I hesitated with this post for a while now because all the effort that went into this isn't really visible at first glance - sounds familiar huh? It was hard for me to put my enthusiasm about this into the right words.

The idea to do collector's boxes which look like bigger regular tuck cases is something that I completely stole from Theory11... :D An object that looks like another object. Similar to these cakes that look like anything but cakes. :D

There is a printing company five minutes away from me. A few years ago, I asked them if they could print some custom boxes for me. Around 50 boxes. I got a rather rude response that they wouldn't even start below 500. And that is the biggest problem will all these printing companies. Below 500-1000 it is not profitable for them. I have turned the internet upside down to find a company that could print custom boxes for me.

After a while found a website that offered folding boxes with a custom size option. Back then it sounded like the perfect solution. With a motif puncher I created the half-moon cut out on all these boxes one by one. At the end the collector's boxes really looked like a bigger tuck box. With all the extra work that I've put on every collector's box I really thought you get something even more special. And this could also have been the case but it was never really perfect because the details never looked like a real tuck case.

Long story short, it took me a few years and I switched the printing companies four times until I found the perfection company who can customize every single detail that I want.

On the left you see the standard box design that I used very often, most recently for the Dondorf decks. On the right you see my modified version. I took the top flap shapes from the standard USPCC tuck box. But the biggest detail is the extra folding line on the front of the tuck. This line was always missing - I even forgot to add the line in the the Cold Foil Hotel Collector's Boxes which are completely custom as well. These details make the final product so much more special in my eyes and I'm really proud that I'm able to offer you these products which get better and better every time.

If you look at MxS Casino Collecotor's Box you can see that the folding lines on the inside of the box aren't looking that clean. I printed these boxes still with a different company. It was a compromise I had to live with and it is ok because it is only on the inside. But you can see that the Edelrot Collector's Box is nearly pearl white inside. Every detail is perfect and I hope you love it as much as I do.

I shared a lot of my custom box experiences with Luke Wadey. He told me my research on boxes is epic :D And I really spent many days - maybe even weeks - to find the best company for my boxes.

These customization options also open new doors for us when it comes to half brick boxes etc. It often happens that you can't open a box without bending the flap because of the locking mechanism. These problems do not exist anymore. I'll customize every brick box now to give you something that is even more special.

I want to launch the Black Roses Edelrot campaign this summer. Currently most likely in July. At least one collector's box will be a limited Patreon exclusive release but I'll talk about it more in detail in another post.

Thanks a lot for reading. Seems like a lot people are struggling right now because of the current situation in the world. So you should know I'm very grateful for your support and I surely don't take it for granted.

Much love and stay safe

Daniel
