You blowed up my expectations with your reactions to my last post about the gold foiled Black Roses so much that I almost didn't dare to show you the Black Roses Hotel sample. :D
I know, gold and black in combination has a huge impact and the contrast makes it really nice. It's a contrast that is missing in this teal and silver design. Nevertheless, I think it's a beautiful and huge step forward to the previous Hotel editions with the silver foil.
Hanson Chien cut this sample on the photo out by hand. I should receive all samples next week. The teal color on the card turned out darker than I thought. Maybe it only looks darker on the photo, therefore I have to see it in person. It is also only possible to print these samples in CMYK. The Pantone color that I want to use for the final deck is more vibrant. I was just hoping that the CMYK color turns out exactly how I've imagined it. So that this CMYK would have been a good alternative.
What I love so much about the Hanson Chien Playing Card Co. is that I'm able to create my own tuck boxes without contacting another company. That makes it really easy to implement ideas. You can't really get creative with USPCC since they only have one tuck box design.
Vintage playing cards often have a longer tuck box flap and I know a lot of you also love these tuck boxes. I wanted to use a tuck box with a longer flap for my future projects with Hanson Chien. I contacted USPCC if they are able to send me their original file. It wasn't easy for them to find the template. They weren't even sure if they still have it which showed me that no one else before really asked for it or really used it.

Some of you know that a lot tuck boxes from Taiwan have a longer flap. But for me it's not really just about the flap. I really want the exact same shape from USPCC to recreate that vintage feel.
Hanson told me that he recreated the tuck box with a longer flap for his Vintage Chicken Nuggets Playing Cards from a 70s Arrco deck.

Just to show you how picky I am and I can't really explain why :D If you compare the bottom flaps in the middle of the tuck box, you can see that Hanson's tuck box has a different shape. THIS small detail - that you can't even see when the box is folded up - is reason enough for me to think about paying for a new cut mold. Otherwise I could simply use the Chicken Nuggets template for free.
As you can see a lot thoughts already went into the tuck box design but here is a small downer. The flaps are too long for the machine to fold it up. Everything needs to get done by hand. This process would take longer and it would cost at least $1200. A considerable sum that I still have to weigh up whether it's worth it since we are already over $21K without the silver paper inside the Hotel tuck.
Considering the high production costs I'm also thinking about making the funding goal on Kickstarter a lot higher. It would only make sense but I also can't imagine that we won't get the production costs back. It's all about the right momentum and if all backers are more motivated to hit the funding goal if it's a lot higher or if it doesn't really matter.
Have a great Sunday
Daniel
