I'm working on four different decks right now plus all the things for the Kickstarter fulfillment and I already started to design the Dondorf Kickstarter page. My goal is to make this campaign look more appealing than all my previous campaigns. Creators already copy my deck designs, promotion and reward ideas - it's time to give them something new. :D
It's incredibly difficult for me to focus on just one thing for a long time. Maybe that's the artistic chaos, maybe I'm just lazy :D But as you already know I also need my time for the smallest details. I switch the projects and I improve something almost every day. But these improvements often seem so small for me that I don't think that it would be worth sharing with you.
However, I thought this update is worth sharing with you. It's about a detail where it seems like 99% of the deck designers and people who use playing cards don't care about.

On the left you can see the original hand of the Queen of Spades on USPCCs standard face cards. I have no idea why the hand looks like that but compared to all the other courts this hand is really the ugliest one - maybe together with hand of the King of Hearts.
In my redrawn face cards that I also offer on my website, you can see a hand that looks almost like the hand in the middle. I just added these little wrinkles on my own decks. There are dozen of details where I can see from far away if someone used my face cards for their deck. One of the biggest details is this hand. I took the shape of the hand from an old deck. I thought this shape simply makes more sense but it's not too realistic, it still fits to the design.
After a few decks I can't see this hand anymore. There is something why I'm not happy with it. I can't even really tell you what it is. Maybe it's just my cynicism and the fact that everyone is now using my files now without appreciating these details but I also figured out that people don't understand the shape. For me it's clear that this is a hand where the fingers are curled in to hold the flower. But I saw one card where someone has drawn finger nails on the end of the hand. So basically on the finger nuckles... *confused Jackie Chan meme face*.
My perfectionism doesn't allow me to be 100% happy with the third version that I've drawn yesterday. But it's definitely the best one yet that I'll use in my next decks. I took the shape of this hand from the Queen of Clubs of the Dondorf court cards. It should be clear now what's going on. The detail with the pinky is what I like the most.
Thanks for reading and feel free to let me know what you think.
Much love
Daniel
