...but a new Madison x Schneider deck that is in the making right now.
From deck release to deck release I always had to improve something on the faces, until the point where I have redrawn all the standard face cards. I don't want to change something just for the sake of it but I also feel uncomfortable if I wouldn't change anything in a new deck release. It's my urge to do better and better so that you always find something new to appreciate.
For the new MxS deck I have a few ideas. I want to share some of them with you now.
These are details which aren't really visible on the first glance but that also makes them perfect.
To achieve a modern vintage look I changed the court card size to the same size of the courts in the Black Roses Hotel / Casino decks. The whole court card drawing is a bit smaller so you get a bigger white frame around the court but it's also more even.
The frames around the courts and the indices are thinner. Something you probably can't even really notice on the digital file but you'll see the difference in the final printed deck. For the same reason to get that vintage feel.
A very nice idea that I have added to the deck are one way face cards. Love the idea but I never really saw a deck where it got implemented really well.
One Diamond pip under the "K" is a little further away from the "K". Only on one side so that you can see if one card in the deck got turned around 180 degrees. You can see it if you look at both cards in the image. One card is upside down. I think this distance is big enough. The decks that I have seen who use this principle exaggerate it so much that I can't feel comfortable anymore if I would use it for a card trick.
Since I'm a lefty, my KD holds the left hand up now. I think this is a nice little detail. I only used this hand in one deck before, the Twisted Artistry Playing Cards by Terry Ady. I'm not 100% sure if I still change this later since the opportunity to palm a card is missing now. Way more work than necessary went into the drawing of that hand. I made a photo to trace the outlines of my hand, so I can say it really is my hand. :D
Hope you like the ideas. Feel free to let me know what you think.
Much love
Daniel
