0100b — Never Before Seen Airwolf Panels, etc

There was zero clipboard content generated by strip 0100 so I picked a random date and, happily, there was a strip for that day, which I could mine instead.

It was very satisfying to mindlessly type “05042006” and have it be not just any strip, but the strip where Ray has Airwolf, and accidentally launches a missile at Philippe. Please — sit back, and enjoy.

What were you doing on May 4, 2006? I had a one-year old and little plastic Ben Franklin glasses.

I was working in a bar/barbq restaurant tin Red Hook Brooklyn and introducing my coworkers to Achewood with this very strip (and rewinding to how we got to that point)

Andrew Siegler

I would have been towards the end of my Sophomore year of High School, so probably still grappling with existential dread induced depression caused by my dumb teenager brain being overly worried about the Large Hadron Collider potentially blowing up the world or even the universe so you can see why I emphasize with Roast Beef so much...

drrockso20

Yeah …but the early Internet was rough. Lots of motorcycle accident websites and badly-lit nudes

Chris Onstad

You merely adopted...

Tom PM

Damn. Sorry, dude. Internet didn’t get me til 19…but it was still just trench coat fedora needs and the Peter pan guy, so at least I had a chance

Chris Onstad

The gag: beautiful

Charles Richter

I'm sorry to report Chris that I did. Age 12 or so we got broadband. And it was all downhill from there. I used to be able to read books. Books!

Tom PM

The borderline style

Reto Pulver

Imagine if we’d gotten the internet at ten, instead of a ratty 1981 copy of playboy

Chris Onstad

I’m glad the gag came through!

Chris Onstad

So, was she avoidant or anxious attachment style?

Chris Onstad

reimagining Yello's original music video so that all the chk-ch-kaas and bom-boms are illustrated by clips from Airwolf cut together in staccato 80s video art style

Charles Richter

My maw believed video games would rot my brains so I didn't get it that year. Next year however she relented and, well, yes, looking back on it 15 years later she was right.

Tom PM

Psychoanalyzing a very turbulent relationship with a goth prepper girl in real time. Learned good learnings.

Reto Pulver

Yeah the font isn't great when you want to communicate the word Bed, I noticed that but went ahead anyway because, small joke

Chris Onstad

Please name the heartbreaking off brand version you got instead.

Chris Onstad

That’s the old chapstick font; the original just said that (I think Philippe was eating this at the transfer station)

Chris Onstad

One Chutzpah lip balm please. For Hanukkah! May 4 2006 was while my second marriage was still pretty okay. It was that guy who introduced me to Achewood in the first place. Alas for him, I was too awesome and we've been split since 2009.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Curious why 2 out of 3 lipsticks are flat-tipped, are they actually lip balm

Jenn

Oh wait, it doesn't say An Enticing Bid? Either way, there's a version of the book that's a sexy romp and a version that is really boring

Uncle Elephant

That would be 5 days before my 10th birthday. Probably hoping I'd get the Nintendo DS, although I don't think I did.

Tom PM

If you do it right you get to pass out more than once

Chris Onstad

Can't drink all day if you don't get started early

Spyguitar

Okay okay but Rick Dorado is going to write it and it’s gonna be more like a three-pager

Chris Onstad

Does this mean we're not gonna get An Enticing Bed then

Joshua M

As my friend used to say: "The only thing better than day-drinking is day-drinking... Think about it"

Stavro

Whether or not this is true, it is beautiful

Chris Onstad

Remember when it was Beer Morning

Chris Onstad

In May 2006 I would have been in college, so probably "not studying for exams"

Stavro

Airwolfe ran for six episodes on BBC1 in 1986. It was a "high-budget" show, despite only ever using four shots of the model Airwolfe in flight, because of the "shocking extravagance" incurred by cracking open a can of actual filmstock (as opposed to just videotaping everything). When the model helicopter catastrophically burst into flames due to - what else? - dodgy electrical work, the writers decided to end the series with the entire principal cast meeting a fiery end to what was ultimately a futile struggle. Fans of the show cling to this downer ending as proof that the show was superior to the American counterpart, despite the rest of the show being camp nonsense.

And one day we will die/ and our ashes will fly/ from the Aerowolfe Over the Sea

Chris Dubie

Aereowolfe.

Dan W

(Just came into my head as a British thing)

Chris Onstad

Cheddar On Sundays

Chris Onstad

I didn’t realize until now that it’s a phrase that’s portable in the abstract, nice

Chris Onstad

Ok ok fine I’ll write it

Chris Onstad

Really? Incredible to think just this one strip of Achewood offcuts has completely salvaged my car crash of a marriage.

Daniel Burt

Ye Olde Airwolfe

Chris Dubie

🎶do you re-mem-bah🎶

Chris Onstad

Big ups for the extra “e,” making it British

Chris Onstad

“What if the only book in this helicopter was about planes” is a real banger to drop in couples therapy. Probably get to go home early.

Anthony Thompson

Airwolfe is a hilarious helicopter to hear about, that is absolutely true.

Chris Dubie

punani

Matt Mitchell

As am I

Matt Mitchell

Looking forward to seeing if the phrase "Airwolf is a hilarious helicopter to hear about." can potentially diffuse other situations when my wife is disappointed by my choices.

Daniel Burt

morbidly curious about "a terrifying fire"
