"What is Shangri-La?" Cornelius Bear edition

In this installment of the "What is Shangri-La" series, Roast Beef interviews the one denizen of Achewood who might actually have some advanced and well-considered ideas on the matter.

Previous interviewees have been Ray, Peter H. "Nice Pete" Cropes, and the unlikely duo of Philippe + Lyle.

the vibe i get off cornelius is that he trusts beef is coming at him from a place of respect even if itd be easier to talk to beef if he at least got through the count of monte cristo i imagine connies line is between an ereader because the written word is the written word regardless of the medium carrying it and watching a film made from the book because if youve outsourced your imagination to hollywood its not like theres any full time staff left inside your skull

Jesus. I never realized that it’s just Ray calling him Connie. A recurring joke in Achewood is Ray’s charismatic effect on trashy off-panel characters… are we the true off-panel trashy characters?

Tell Beef his workaround for the Panama palindrome was clever and amusing. Cornelius is probably nodding acquaintances with some god or another, wouldn't surprise me at all.

One of my greatest disappointments of recent times is seeing that Beef refers to twitter as X with neither a trace of irony nor of having been paid to do so.

"exponential times"; go Mr. Bear! Ada Palmer* has used this idea in her books; the confluence makes me happy. *science-fiction novelist, when she's not a being history professor so cool she has her students LARP a papal election as a capstone exercise or composing a capella operas based on contemporary scholarship in Norse mythology.** She has a following among the Facebook chochachos, too. **this is not bullshit.

I want to hang with Cornelius and share in that old-school wisdom
