Added 2023-10-13 17:00:05 +0000 UTCA freshly-bathed Ray wanders in and discovers Pat, who is suffering from the more acute form of "couch-lock" known as rug-bug. And Pat is anything but snug.
It is my sincere hope that someone takes row number two and turns it into a pleasant little animation.

I think what's crucial to the fact of Ray and Pat's friendship, more than anything Ray tells Pat about what makes him valuable, is that when Pat tries to manipulate Ray, Ray just says, "nah, I'm not gonna do that." Ray is either not wired to feel betrayal from stuff like that, or he's known Pat long enough that he doesn't expect anything more.

In the last panel here, he's both completely correct in what he says to Ray AND telling Ray what he needs to hear. And his breakthrough last week was an instance of genuine self-awareness and remorse, maybe even growth. But in both cases, he gets dismissed as bush league and boring. It's not like Griftin' Ron and Gettin'-Grifted Ray have any particular moral or intellectual high ground on this one.
