0011 - Achewood 2033 A.D.

The bitch in question is Captain Cragen, of course.

This strip brings up a timely subject. I am indeed gently lampooning the concept of artificial intelligence here, which reminds me of how much I have been enjoying writing the new content organically, as promised — much too much to even begin to think of using AI in any creative capacity. (I mostly use various AI services as search engines, because the results are better-prepared and require less sieving.)

This poses the question: am *I* putting *artificial intelligence* out of a job? In this retelling of the classic tale, does John Henry share the task of westward expansion with the steam-driven drill, where John Henry does the flashier and more audience-pleasing drilling (writing bathetic gags about Winnie the Pooh and boutique cannabis formats), and the steam-driven drill is relegated to the more pedestrian and uncelebrated sorts of drilling (joylessly generating Dilberts in an unmanned server farm outside of Rancho Cucamonga)? Do they share a cold ale after clocking out each day? (The ale would be poured into the steam-driven drill instead of water, in this scenario, and the barstool would be moved so that its frame could be set flush against the bar. John Henry would "cheers" it on its reciprocating piston rod.)

Decide for yourself. Perhaps you have been enjoying all that wonderful new AI-powered humor that's going around.

Wicked welcomes and thank you, Jack!

Chris Onstad

F me I'm so glad I finally loosened my grip on my digital wallet and paid for this, it's ducking marvelous

Jackaroony

That final line absolutely sent me. I love this

Nate

I can't stop thinking about "shart guzzler"

Joe

This is my favorite one of the new era so far.

Nikhil Brocchini

It's all good, I'm glad that nano-detail got some attention!

Chris Onstad

No sweat! Been a while since I've read music, but the notation had enough verisimilitude that it made me curious. Didn't mean to fact check a joke ;)

Chris Martin

Doubtful. I was mostly just playing with the arcane vagaries of that world of markup; perhaps a Music Person could come in and explain how wrong it is.

Chris Onstad

Those are just his diabetes glasses. They’re not VR.

Chris Onstad

But does Ray still have an actual TV in 2033, or is it just sound and pictures from his VR glasses? It seems like there is a physical TV in the room with Ray, but then what is that headgear doing? Understanding the technological implementation is very important to me.

Jon

Like rain freezin' and thawin' between bricks year after year

LowClarity

I'm picturing the introductory remarks from Ben Shapiro...

Daniel Burt

OOC, is that the actual musical notation for the Law and Order sound effect?

Chris Martin

Thank you writing the tasteful 'TAP! TAP!' as befitting a Lothario of Peterson's stature, the scene started humming off the screen. Diaresis shook me to my g-d core, I was not prepared, Tutoro still gots it

Diego

Excellent

A. C.

That straight-on angle from behind Ray's head! I don't think we've ever seen that. No monk dime in evidence.

Oppido

I mean I can’t really throw stones here but you do understand that there are newer webcomics

Ben Sunshine-Hill

today is a fuck-you-learning friday

Ray doesn't seem too much like a Wikipedia rabbit hole kind of guy. But you would not believe how much you learn that way.

The Dude has Got No Mercy. Since we no longer have writers or actors and nothing in the pipeline after Dune Part II, I look forward to a re-emergence of Dr Phil and maybe an AI Morton Downey Jr. hosting AI Family Feud (where all the AI families get every answer right except math). I'm sorry, Morton, but as an AI language model I cannot use tongue when you kiss me.

J Hardy Carroll

In a way, we're all looking for media now where we can say "I get this dude!" Society has shifted away from inscrutable dudes except as villains or when played by Cillian Murphy.

Jay Y

It was an accurate portrayal of user generated social spaces though. Back when I was on Second Life, I was 100% dressed up like some anime and joyriding around various Stargate zones

Minda H

"Dr. Jordan Peterson Celebrates The Missionary Position" is the bleakest thing I've seen in a while. Achewood is BACK, baby

Andrew Nelson

Computer! What am I deciding for myself?

Aaron G. Stock

Ray's said dieresis so many times over the years it's a foundational component of the AI's training data.

Daniel Baugh

I like how in "Ready Player One" pop culture apparently ended at the dawn of the 21st century and everyone collectively agreed that we would stop creating new things and just remix what came before

Yelahneb Unicornucopiax

I spent multiple extra keystrokes today, while sharing my screen no less, typing "reëncryption" and silently congratulating myself on my badass dieresis.

Steven Matuszek

oh man, is pooh really gone? dang...

Linus Lee

Ray didn't learn the word dieresis.
