IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Hey everybody,

This is a very relevant post for you Patrons. I've decided not to continue with the new parts format I was trying out. It's more difficult and limiting to write and structure reviews in that way, and it didn't seem to help performance in any significant way. I also feel it made for a bit of a messy experience on the channel to have multiple parts floating around; I unlisted them a few days ago, and having only the full video listed now is considerably cleaner and easier.

I think instead of splitting the reviews up into the parts, I should probably be looking elsewhere for the key to achieving better growth. First of all, I will be cutting down on length. I am not going to the cookie cutter, 10 minute videos, but I wanna say in the range of an hour is a good upper limit, unless a game really requires more time to dissect. While I'm proud of the work I've done for my Mega Man X7 and Jak and Daxter videos, in hindsight they probably didn't need to be so long. Not only is it exhausting to sit through as a viewer, these two videos also took obnoxiously long to edit. The ratio of workload to performance absolutely isn't worth it.

Secondly, I am probably going to stick to popular, big titles for now when it comes to Quickies Don't Cut It. It's one thing to watch a long, in-depth analysis on a game people love/hate and are familiar with; it's another thing entirely to watch a long, in-depth analysis on a more obscure game people aren't really familiar with. I don't plan to abandon obscure titles altogether -- somebody's gotta talk about 'em -- but I'll have to say how I'm going to handle them.

And thirdly, I am definitely going to try to mix up content more often. The Final Fantasy video was really refreshing to make, and so was the Mega Man X Legacy Collection video. Sometimes it's nice to create ''shorter'' (still long by most people's standards, lol) stuff, for myself and for people new to my channel. At the moment I don't have any ideas for similar, shorter form videos, but who knows what I'll think of down the line.

Now, since one of the rewards as a Patron was gaining access to full retrospectives early -- while everybody else had to wait for the parts to come out -- I want to make it abundantly clear that that is NOT a thing anymore. If you became a Patron specifically for that early access perk, I really don't mind if you decide to drop your monetary support. You are totally in the right to do that. For those of you who still want to donate regardless, thank you very much! All I can say is that I hope you'll continue enjoying future content and that it lives up to your expectations.

Which leaves me to my final point here: I'm not quite sure yet how I am going to be handling my Patreon, so a per month basis or a per video basis. Both have their pros and cons, really. Per month basis is the most financially most stable and beneficial option for me, but I also do not deserve your money if I don't have anything to show for it that month; I simply can't dedicate all my time to YouTube, which means content won't be as consistent as you see with other YouTubers out there.

Per video basis is a lot less stressful for me and fairer/more trustworthy for you guys. The downside is that I cannot make a distinction in the system between long and short videos, and give people options for which they do and do not want to donate. I feel like not all Patrons would be aboard with it if I started charging for every single video I make, when some of them aren't even analytical/Quickies Don't Cut It. Nevertheless, it is time and effort I have to invest in those videos all the same, and time and effort are both money.

So I'll have to see how I'm going to be doing the Patreon moving forward, and I'll be sure to update accordingly as changes happen. Anyway, thanks for the support that you all have shown, and hopefully it's clear what's going on so you can adjust your pledges accordingly!
