New texture tool is out. For modders and for players
Added 2020-11-09 17:12:14 +0000 UTCTextures are pretty important when it comes to brining new stuff to the game.
For mods that use 4K (or higher res) textures, it's a good idea to also offer a 2K variant for people with slower computers to also enjoy your mods. This tool can therefore help users to downsize textures from a mod with just a few clicks, so they can use the mod without having to sacrifice performance.
Because re-scaling textures individually in Photoshop is tedious, and using the batch function is still quite slow and cumbersome to use sometimes, I create a little tool that can do that.
But not only this. It can also help modders to port textures from other games or PBR systems to Fallout 4 with a few clicks. Some assets will still need manual corrections, but most textures are ready to go with a few clicks.
It also helps those, who don't have access to Photoshop. Intel's Texture Works Plugin, which offers high quality texture compression, isn't available otherwise.
This changed now. My tool uses the same compressor (ispc_texcomp) standalone without the need of photoshop. Giving users of GIMP or Paint.net the option to also store their textures using high quality BC7 compression.
