NEW VIDEO: Could Your Phone Hurt You? Electro Smog

Electricity is all around us, all the time. It makes our lives easier, safer, more fun and most of us never think about it. But is there such a thing as too much electricity? Electronic devices emit an electromagnetic field, which is suspected to cause cancer. We read countless sources on this topic to summarize the results of the latest research for you.

NEW VIDEO: Could Your Phone Hurt You? Electro Smog

I suggest you do not change the default English subtitle's appearance. It overwrites YouTube's subtitle configuration, so we can't apply font, position settings, it always resets to that pink style, at a fixed position. This style may be good for the video, it is nice, but subtitles are for the reader. It is always easier to read texts in front of black background, bigger size etc, which we could configure in YouTube, if the subtitles weren't overwritten by you.

Hi, so sorry to hear about this! Do you mind dropping me an email about this as patreon@kurzgesagt.org? THANK you and many apologies! Felina

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

Hi friends, the video came out in German first, so for us it had that clean ending, or clear end sentence. But since many people disagree, we obviously did not do a good job in english – really sorry for that, we slipped up. We'll be much more conscious about that in the future! Much Love, Felina

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell

Hi Kurzgesagt, I extremely enjoy your videos and decided to donate 2 months ago. But for some reasons, I didn't receive my cake design or email from you, could you recheck it ?

hey, I really love your work! I have a topic idear !maybe you can do a video about dyslexia and dyscalculia. Ther still a lot of people how don't know about it.

I just wanted to thank u for the great postcards i get from u at some point i need a massiv frame where i can hang them.

Hey, I just become a Patreon to contribute to your channel because I really think you're improving the world by presenting interesting topic in an aseptic way. I love your videos but the ad in this last one made me very sad. All the effort researching the information for the subject and all the amazingly presented result of that research completely diluted in the last seconds of the video. Please, consider other types of funding: single donations, merchandising (only announced in the description)... Hope you take into account the feedback from this video and, anyway, thank you so much for all the astonishing videos done so far.

I don't think the problem is that there's an ad- Kurzgesagt has always had ads, affiliate marketing, or just a credit for where the grant came from and have always been upfront about it- but more that the ad was woven into the script more than they had been doing. It's a noticeable change that causes a slight tonal dissonance, IMO

Your work is better than 99% of what's out there, and my $ contribution is less than 1% of my income. Do whatever you need to do to keep on keepin' on! Remember, folks - these guys could be making way more money doing other things, but they choose to make these educational videos for the common good. If ads are truly that painful to sit through, consider increasing your donation to something comparable to what they make from them to keep the lights on.

Just to balance things out I was fine with the native advertising. I recognise that my and others' patreon contributions likely aren't sufficient to realise your goals and aspirations, and so while I prefer content without advertising generally, the more I value the content and think it has broader utility, the more willing I am to give it a pass to do whatever it needs to do to be viable and optimise.

Jesse Richardson

I really don't like how seamless the ad transition was. It smacked of "native advertising", which really sucks. The reason I support as a patron is because I want to not feel guilty about blocking ads. If you're just going to make the ones in the video more obnoxious, then why should I continue?

Olivia Appleton

I thought the ad segue felt off your style too. It ended up feeling a lot like an HAI/Wendover ad segue, which works for them, but it's weird on your videos

Jessica Cheeri

Came to gripe about the undemarcated ad pivot, but I see I'm not the first to notice.

Have to agree with the previous commenters. I'm a big fan of everything you guys have been doing the past years and if money is an issue I'd love to double my monthly contribution. However, describing and analysing an interesting scientific phenomenon and then suddenly making a non-obvious twist to some other issue in order to be able to say "this-fantastic-product-from-our-sponsors-solves-this-unrelated-issue" mixes content with financing, which makes you vulnerable to people that question your scientific objectivity. (which I'm personally totally convinced of, but as Gareth notices, that context/reputation might get lost over time)

Taco Nieuwenhuis

I enjoyed that - Like with all of your work you always present a very clear and carefully mapped out impartial opinion - however I have to agree with the comment above - integrating sponsorship into your amazing content could end up turning viewers away and discredited your work in the long run. Especially in the long term when viewers searching/researching topics come across your videos in 5+ years from now.

Gareth Ross - Buildmedia

Hey, I love your videos, but didn't like the sponsorship bit. I understand why you need sponsors and that's ok, I never had an issue with how it has been done. But presenting it as part of the content of the video instead of a clear separate ad space hurts your credibility.
