Deep Dive Sneak Peek: Derrick Chautkin
Added 2025-11-04 12:00:14 +0000 UTCThis week I'm sharing a total asshole of a Devoted who serves Human Logistics, a Standing 7 conspiracy.
The usual caveat applies: This is a first draft, so there will be changes.
Derrick Chautkin
Quote: “If you’d stayed where you belonged this wouldn’t be happening to you.”
Background: Derrick was born in a small town, but his parents moved to the city when he was 8 years old. After the move, Derrick had difficulty making friends with his heavily immigrant neighbors and soon fell in with the school bullies. He participated in his first firebombing at the age of 14 – a restaurant owned by the immigrant parents of one of his least favorite classmates. Although egged into it by his friends, he soon realized he enjoyed the rush of power that came with being able to hurt and frighten someone he hated.
He was arrested for arson at 15 and did a stint in juvenile detention where he met other teenagers who shared his views. One of them, Sam White, had family with connections to Lisedifin’s cult, and once Derrick was free again, he eagerly joined the organization.
At first, Derrick felt a little squeamish about outright human sacrifice, but his desire for the approval of his new friends, coupled with fantasies about how he would use the kinds of powers the Devoted wielded, steeled his resolve. After five years of service Derrick, received his chance to prove himself to the Entity. This involved abducting the child of an immigrant and bringing them to the Flesh Pits as a sacrifice, and although the task was by no means easy, Derrick did as he was told with great enthusiasm and received Divergence as his reward.
As one of the cult’s Devoted, and soon after its reinvention as Human Logistics, Derrick was assigned to its border patrol division, where he takes special pleasure in maiming illegal immigrants with his sniper rifle so that they are easy for his colleagues to apprehend. Whenever he catches an entire family crossing the border, Derrick derives particular satisfaction from targeting children first; after all, an injured kid slows the adults down just as much while leaving their parents in good physical condition for the conspiracy’s work farms.
Appearance: Derrick is in his mid-30s with a shaved head. He sports several prominent tattoos, including a full sleeve of a dragon on his right arm, a reference to a sacred text often embraced by nationalists on his left forearm, and no fewer than three hate symbols on his chest (one old and simple, one more detailed and only a few years old, and one large and elaborate inked within the last month). He favors practical clothes like T-shirts and cargo pants, and nearly always has a concealed pistol. When on patrol, he wears a military style uniform and carries a sniper rifle and handcuffs.
Roleplaying Hints: Derrick is brutish, cruel, and ignorant. He loves to show off how powerful he is, reveling in the terror of those within his power.

* When he kills or captures an immigrant, Derrick can rarely resist branding their body with a hate symbol, although if it’s a group he usually only marks one of them in this way – typically the one who puts up the most resistance.
** An attack that hits Derrick’s right arm inflicts the Arm Wrack Tilt on him until the end of the scene. Carapace does not protect this area.
