MLP - Don't judge Starlight Glimmer

A couple of days ago I've been working on this. I got some A5 pieces of paper, so I wanted to draw this.

If you've been on board for many years you might know that I'm not a fan of Starlight Glimmer. Back in 2016 I thought she was horrible after watching Every little thing she does, but when I went back to the show last year I was shocked that she kept manipulating other characters with either her magic or her vocabulary and then getting away with it without the show adressing those issues.

In 2020 I've read many defenses on Starlight in Derpibooru that are very weird and pretty biased, but two particular comments really got my attention: "Starlight doesn't like to be judged because nobody likes to be judged" and "manipulating other characters is part of what makes Starlight great, you can't change it". I found these defenses very scary and creepy, but they inspired me to make this fanart.

Nobody likes to be judged, but the people who think this are people who understand the value of guilt and consequences. Those people try their best to be better people, not keeping manipulating everyone as much as possible and holding them down. I find it really creepy. I think the people who keep making the same dangerous mistakes over and over again don't believe in the "no judging" argument, they just want to get away with it. And, if the point of Starlight is to keep manipulating other characters no matter what, why did the writers reform her in the first place? Why not keeping her being a villain then or something? It's senseless.

Like I said in DeviantArt months ago, I'm not as mad as I was in 2016 because at least I'm not the only one who doesn't like her. I've seen many people sharing the same concerns about Starlight. I can't act like I'm the only one who sees this problem. Besides, a Starlight fanboy who gets angry at these complaints says more about themselves than what they want to say.

This will be in DeviantArt and Twitter tomorrow.

I hope you like it and thank you for your support!

Love,
RT

Comments

I’ll be honest, Starlight’s misbehavior just isn’t something that I’ve noticed all that much. That may strike you as oddly exceptional, because I certainly remember finding Discord and Angel Bunny to be the most unpleasant, unlikable characters in the series, but I generally don’t remember having those feelings with regards to Starlight Glimmer around the same time. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m more forgiving towards female characters, or I paid more attention to her less unpleasant aspects (like her relationship with Trixie), or what, but I don’t feel up to rewatching several seasons to understand exactly what we’re talking about. I’m not exactly ‘angry’, but I’ll admit that I felt a brief burst of acute stress inside me when I saw this and I am disappointed to see some negativity and potential controversy turn up here. I am not going to tell you what you can put up or take down from your account, though; I just thought that you were interested in my honest opinion.

Hm, going clock-wise starting with the wagon trade: Messed up, F*ed up, I partially blame Trixie on that one, F*ed up, (Twilight) can't remember that one, messed up, bad impulse control, Discord being himself, and Starlight not knowing how to handle him So, overall, yes Starlight should have been called out more for the messed/f*ed up stuff she did. Yet again, we only have 20 minutes per episode.
