The main inspiration of the background was the shot from the MLP film where Twilight was singing We got this together, where she was flying. Then I chose different references of photos and drawings about sunsets in purple tones. So I was playing with the orange/yellow color and the blue/purple color constantly. It was very fun!
Most of the background was made with a different brush in different levels of flow, specially the snow, the clouds and the main light.
