The way I think about the Cylons is that they are like cars are in the "Cars" universe. There are a whole bunch of "Ford Mustangs" and "Ford Broncos" out there and they all have similarities, but in the Cars universe they also have individual personalities like Lightning McQueen or Doc Hudson... and based on what was shared by Six and others, when they die their consciousness is functionally reincarnated into an identical body, so they are functionally immortal beings.

2025-10-25 09:12:23 +0000 UTCThe thing that this incarnation of the franchise did that led to more philosophical thought to me was having the 12 Cylon models that are functionally indistinguishable from the rest of humanity. If you are going to look down on the early Cylons because they are "rust buckets" or "buckets of bolts" or "clankers" that sort of discrimination has even less justification if they are otherwise indistinguishable from biological humans. During their first war the distinction between meat machines and metal machines was a clear distinction, if an ultimately indefensible one, if they are both sentient beings... this gets fuzzier because WTF is the actual distinction between a bunch of meat machines apart from their philosophies and religions? This rolled out in the shadow of 9/11 when similar questions were being asked in regard to the war of terror...
