No spoilers here, but speaking in generalities, none of the great horror franchises were planned out beforehand. These movies were churned out fairly quickly as studios and producers wanted to capitalize on the slasher trend before it burned out. In just a little more than 9 years Paramount released 8 FRIDAY THE 13TH movies. Also, a lot of what pop culture considers "essential" parts of a series don't show up right away. Continuity is not really these movies' strong suit.

Betsy Palmer is the actress who plays Pamala Voorhees. She is a respected Broadway actress and is probably most well know for being a panelist for the show I've got a Secret. She famously did this movie if they just bought her a car lol.
The hockey mask doesn't show up until the 3rd movie.

When the girl was in the outhouse talking in the mirror she was quoting a line from The Rainmaker (1956)

The movie itself only says Jason is ‘different,’ which can imply a lot of things and did not leave me to assume any additional lore. Some kids are just outcast regardless of physical or mental ability and not all disabilities are visual. On screen, he’s shown as a bloated, waterlogged corpse in quick flashes, so that’s what I reacted to; a decaying, reanimated body I assumed was deformed from water decay. I wasn’t aware of the deeper lore here. I’m brand new to this franchise, and as a first-time viewer it is not obvious from this film that a disability or a congenital deformity is specifically being implying rather than just a haunting horror creature. To label that as ableist because of “ignorance” is honestly very strange and disappointing in this context. And if that truly is his lore then paradoxically, by that argument, wouldn’t the franchise itself be ableist then? It’s the films that tie Jason’s ‘difference’ to being monstrous, and if the lore is that the “difference” is because he’s disabled then it’s really the franchise itself that’s equating disability with horror. Which understandably is a bit outrageous.

Firstly, speaking as a disabled person, Maple's ableism is only the ignorant kind as opposed to the openly discriminatory kind, so it's forgivable. Secondly, this is an 80s horror movie; so all the victims have the survival instincts of a chicken.

Also they totally killed a real snake and it was actually an animal handlers pet, they didn't tell him beforehand they were gonna kill it and he attacked the director over it

You know their love of horror movie rules makes me think they'd also really like the Scream franchise.

Chances are they're gonna post scary movies one week and not scary movies the next week so they needed to start before October to fit everything in.

Nice! A classic. If they're keeping this scary movie theme, I hope they eventually watch "Barbarian" and "Weapons".
