2025-08-29 21:28:28 +0000 UTCWhat you have to understand is that the two show runners: DB Weiss and David Benioff really didn't want to still be doing this show. They had run out of material because George RR Martin refuses to either finish the book series or hand it off and they had been doing the show for a few decades and they were told that Disney was going to let them do a Star Wars movie series that they were really looking forward to. Basically, they just wanted their time at Game of Thrones to be over so they could move over to doing Star Wars which is what they really wanted to be doing. That's why Season 8 is only 6 episodes because they were trying to wrap it up as quickly as possible. The bitter irony is that after the near-universal negative reaction to Season 8, Disney got cold feet and cancelled their Star Wars contract!
