Better Call Saul 4x8 | Watch Along

Better Call Saul 4x8 | Watch Along

The thing with Kim is that she is conflicted between being who she thinks she should be and who she wants to be. Jimmy represents freedom, excitement, passion, and danger, while S&C and Mese Verde represent safety, stability, conformity etc. I adore the fact that unlike 99% of shows, Kim isn't just the classic shrill, uptight, morally righteous woman that we so often see in media. She is as complicated and flawed as Jimmu, Gus, Mike, Nach, Jessie, Walter etc.

Zane Platt

This is the point in the show where I'd recommend going back and rewatching the BCS episode of Breaking Bad (2x8), specifically the scene where Walt and Jesse take Saul out into the desert. It helps give more significance to that last scene beyond the introduction of a new character who, unbeknownst to most (myself included when I first watched), is someone who's been mentioned before.

He has one non-violent prior and they're throwing the book at him without enough evidence. being a "career pickpocket" isn't a legal state, he got caught and convicted one time. Should he be jailed for up to 18 months for hitting a cop with a bag of sandwiches and pickpocketing one time at one point? Absolutely not. The DA serves the state and the law isn't fair, particularly to people who look like Huell. She's using this opportunity to put away someone she (in this case correctly) thinks is a "career" criminal, but it's not evidentially substantiated IMO. And we all know the sentence wouldn't be 18 months if it was a petite white woman who picked 1 pocket and swung a hoagie.

Kara

I mean you have to take into account that Huell is not just A pickpocket. He is a professional one who offers his services to other criminals. Other crimes, while more violent, might be an isolated incidentby people with no priors. Like a homeless man off his meds. Violent but not in his right mind. And while we might find Huell funny the Assistant DA is 100% right about him. He IS a career criminal who steals from others and he is likely to comtinue breaking the law if he is not arrested. Prior history plays a big role in sentencing.

The way I was just about to comment this exact thing as soon as maple said it 💀

Finally Lalo!

Kim definitely is like Jimmy in that she gets a kick out of pulling off the scams, but she has a different line than Jimmy. She didn't want to just tear down a cop just to get her way like Jimmy would, but when she sees an injustice on the prosecution side, she will be more colorful in her approach. Kim is my favorite character; the actress just does an amazing job.

Lalo!!!!!!

Imagine if a Salamanca had a brain. Alas, here's Lalo.

MKF1004

But without a doubt Lalo is my absolute favorite BCS original character.

Joel Davis

LALO. IT BEGINS.

Life, as we know it, is over. This Lalo guy seems like an ok guy 🙂

Great reaction! There's another show that famously tried to "subvert expectations" but I think BCS does it authentically, and so much better. As said on Barry, it makes "the unsafe choice" over and over again. When it seems obvious Kim and Jimmy are gonna split up, saving Huell somehow brings them closer than ever. You think Howard is a supervillain, turns out he's just a somewhat shitty boss trying to do right by his friend + partner. You think Mike is gonna put Hector in a wheelchair, turns out it's something else. It's delicate writing, to subvert your expectation in a way that makes it even more satisfying. And then when it does do the obvious thing it feels earned (like BB ending etc). Tony Dalton (Lalo) is indeed very hot lol. He's just got that charismatic older guy rizz, like a Mexican-American James Bond. Werner is babygirl and Mike is the babysitter, they really should have built in breaks into the lab work schedule (e.g one week out of the warehouse every 4 months or whatever). Reeeaaally looking forward to the next two / finale!!!

And Lalo Salamanca has arrived......

Kim is breaking bad.....

I wonder if the girls are gonna like lalo or go full on simp for "daddy gus" and let it cloud their judgment, not that they have to like him or anyone. Semi spoilers below ⬇️ Because I can honestly totally see them going full on crazy Stan mode for gus and not thinking logically when their favorite demi god they've been low key worshipping for months since they met him in breaking bad finally meets someone that can go toe to toe with him, and they get upset and lose their minds. Whether with the writers or plot. I'm just speculating of course but I have been curious and thinking about it since we've been getting closer and closer to his introduction, I want to hear other people's thoughts and opinions.

enter daddy lalo

David Devora

nacho when a new salamanca drops: there's more of them?? 😭😭🥺😭

Kara

Ah, Papi Lalo… the answer to a question that you both may have asked yourselves once or twice: Is Gus capable of experiencing fear?
