I think part of the reason their relationship feels so weird this season is precisely that Jimmy no longer provides those acts of service we used to see him perform. All he does is take now. I could be making this up, but I think it was during season 1 that one of the ladies made an off the cuff observation that this show was like watching the birth of a comic book villain. For me, that's been this season. I can't put my finger on it, but all of Jimmy's actions this season indicate to me that something has finally broken in him. We're seeing all of the same character beats we've seen before, but there's something nastier bubbling under the surface this time.

Gus keeping Hector's mind trapped in his body like the Coati. Mike yelling German in his thick accent. Huell "Cop-Killer" Babineux with the OP sandwich attack? And Kim being peak Kim, stacking up banking Ws while saving pro bono clients while Jimmy sells drop phones to save up enough money for an office Kim obviously doesn't want.... lol. And yet she's still willing to help him even when he's being a fucking idiot. Kim and Jimmy's relationship is so strange... sometimes it seems so perfunctory / dispassionate on screen and then they do these incredible acts of service for each other (jimmy doctoring the mesa verde docs, kim representing jimmy and later huell etc) like soulmates, like best friends. Good show!
