I've heard friends hint at the fact that Herbert didn't do the best job with his own protagonist, so yeah I may just follow your advice and jump right in, then maybe read the books later to compare.

2024-12-19 21:32:08 +0000 UTCI haven't watched Prophecy yet, I'm going to binge watch all of them this Sunday. However I wouldn't wait to read the Dune books before watching the movies, there are many differences between the books and the movies, and the movies are better than the book. I know some would probably have a lot to say about that statement, but the book reads more like a stage play, everyone sitting in big ornate rooms scheming, talking about "plans within plans" whilst twirling their moustache. Also, Frank Herbert did a terrible job of emphasising the fact that the main character is not, and was never meant to be, considered a hero. He failed in this so utterly, that the book is often cited as an example of the "white saviour" trope. Dennis Villanueva fixed almost all of that, he created a layered living breathing universe full of grey, with a protagonist that perfectly balances what Frank Herbert wanted to do, with what he actually did do. Whilst creating two of the most visually incredible movies I've ever seen. As far as the movies go, I'd just jump in, then go check out the thumbnail to Arianna's Dune 1 reaction. They done her dirty, but it's hilarious. lol

Lord of the Rings will always pull more views, because it's Lord of the Rings, not because it's a movie. There are many movies they've uploaded to YouTube which have done worse than a stock episode of some TV show, and I believe with Lord of the Rings wrapped up they've done all the big ones. The only movie that they haven't done which is almost guaranteed numbers are the animated Miles Morales Spiderverse movies. There are movies I want them to watch, like the Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the other one) but I know they probably won't do numbers, but that's not my concern as a viewer, I just want fun stuff to watch. Honestly I would love Maple and Arianna to watch a documentary called Grizzly Man, I think the commentary on that would be classic, but I know that will probably never happen. Because ultimately they have to weigh up an aggregate of opinions and feedback from a weird bi-polar amorphous blob know as "the audience", and most of that blob seem to be crying out for The Wire and Sopranos.

2024-12-19 19:17:39 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure they often bulk record. Filming say 5 one-hour shows in a day vs 3 shows and one 2-hour movie I dont think is some massive undertaking. They often take breaks during shows when they need to anyway, and just edit them out. Also, as for keeping patrons subbed. Movies are much larger breakout successes on YouTube than TV shows. The Return of the King video has over 3 times the views as any other video in months on the channel, and the re-upload of Harry Potter 1 is one of the best of the month so far. Movies are always going to attract subs even if its for shorter times. Imagine they committed to say Harry Potter once a week. Thats 8 movies (more if they did the spinoffs). Thats practically as long or longer than a season of a TV show anyway. I've subbed to well over a dozen patreons over the years off and on, and none ever did TV only (I'm sure they exist). All of them did a mix of both.

2024-12-18 17:37:44 +0000 UTCI'd prefer they do shows to movies personally, but there are practical issues. Two eps of a 45 min show = 90 mins. Most movies are longer. Shows have a forced break so they can take a breather half way, or even split the records across days to account for stuff, movies you have to be locked in the whole time 2h+ whatever. Finally a movie slot is a lot harder to keep regular patrons for - if you're watching a popular show, patrons usually lock in for the whole show, whereas movie subs are random and sporadic.
