2024-12-19 16:39:59 +0000 UTCPhenomenal episode. Varys' scene, Theon being brought back, the mutiny of the Knight's Watch, many great scenes then ending with the Sack of Astapor. #6 in my personal top 10 GOT episodes.

2024-11-09 06:34:39 +0000 UTCI know it's still early, but Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy is really a wonderful performance. Idk if its underappeciated exactly, but I do see it less talked about than some others.

2024-11-09 05:55:12 +0000 UTCFrom what I've heard about the actor Jack Gleeson (Geoffrey), after GOT he pursued an academic career and he was often described by his costars as highly intellectual especially for his age at the time. It has only been recently that he returned to acting though

2024-11-08 22:11:28 +0000 UTCThe best part of this episode will always be Emilia Clarke's line delivery in gibberish, made up languages. Shes saying nonsense, but still sounds like a warlord.

2024-11-08 16:49:52 +0000 UTCJack didn't get hate for his role as Joffrey, this is just a weird rumor that has spread over the years in the fandom. He himself has said recently that everyone is super nice to him and he had no negative experiences from playing Joffrey. https://ew.com/tv/game-of-thrones-joffrey-jack-gleeson-no-negative-fan-experiences/

2024-11-08 07:32:31 +0000 UTCJack is back, actually! He's going to be in a new Netflix show called House of Guinness, about the history of the brewery family.

2024-11-08 02:23:26 +0000 UTCThis episode shows why GoT became such a cultural phenomenon. There are a lot of great shows that came out during or around the time GoT was airing but seasons 1-3 are the absolute peak of TV for me.

2024-11-07 23:14:17 +0000 UTCJack Gleeson has said that he never received hate because of his role as Joffrey. He said that he feels like fans have been nicer to him because they believe he gets attacked, when it was actually just a rumour being spread.

2024-11-07 21:34:17 +0000 UTCwatching the girls watching this, my face hurts from smiling!! it is simply an amazing episode!! Daenerys is one the greatest Characters ever written for GOT!! Also, a shoutout to the late, great Diana Rigg, who plays the "queen of Thorns" she is such a great actress who just slips into her role like she was born for it! My God, to think she she was a "bond girl" in 1969 and had a 47-year career of great roles!

2024-11-07 21:33:23 +0000 UTCSomeone else mentioned that Jack Gleeson (Joffrey) took a break from acting, but it goes a bit further than that. Basically all the main cast of Game of Thrones, at least the ones in multiple seasons, got rich enough off the show to never work again - think multiple millions. A contract renegotiation came up halfway through too, so actors who went through that got even better payouts. So Jack Gleeson effectively retired from acting for many years (now doing small parts), but he's earned enough money to live comfortably perhaps forever. It has spoilers but there's a great talk he did at a university if you search "jack gleeson university talk" on youtube. He's Irish and super humble, seems like a great lad, took the negativity in stride... he said he quit acting not cuz he didnt like it, but doing it as a real job sapped his enthusiasm. Now he gets to be in whatever he wants with his mates forever. Compensation for cast and crew is a big topic right now because it used to be if you were cast in multiple seasons of a hit show, you'd be rich for life, but the new deals offered by places like Netflix make that much harder - shorter runs, less seasons, hidden metrics, no syndication.

2024-11-07 21:02:16 +0000 UTCThis is hands down my favorite episode of GoT, to this day I still hear Dany saying "Dovagarys" (Unsullied) in my mind. At the time I could not understand how in just 2 years they got me to forget that she would speak High Valerian with her brother in season 1. But everything, the Mother Theresa fit, the music, the lighting. And even other things from the episode, the way Margery fully pulled Joffrey away from Cersei, how the currently unnamed man tricked Theon. The entire episode is perfection.

2024-11-07 20:38:18 +0000 UTCYeah it's rough, he got IRL hate for playing a villain but when he looks at other roles people say they just can't see him for a non-villain role.

2024-11-07 20:35:24 +0000 UTCFor those who know the document Tywin is filling out is the document that triggers the events in episode 9 of season 3. That important stuff is just shown like that, thats why I love this show so much, well one of many many reasons why.

2024-11-07 20:32:27 +0000 UTCThe Lannister kid who was treated by Talisa is recast into a more prominent role later on too.

2024-11-07 20:16:36 +0000 UTCahh, true, but my other exception I had in mind to it being tasteful is tangentially related to a character from last episode for the non-first-watch commenters.

2024-11-07 19:04:26 +0000 UTCYep, it's unfortunate when people can't separate the actor from the character. I've read that Jack Gleeson is like, just the nicest dude in the world, so it doubly sucks that he got so much hate.

2024-11-07 18:55:25 +0000 UTCthat poor man got a LOT of hate!!!

2024-11-07 18:52:26 +0000 UTCSpeaking of feeling differently about Jaime, one of the fun things with the book series past book 1 is (as all chapters are PoV) seeing who gets added over time. And on fire effects... enjoy next week's first episode! :) (Beric, the leader of the Brotherhood, is recast in this episode from who played him in season 1 when Ned sent him to bring the Mountain to justice. The Mountain was recast last season and will be recast again - definitely something they do a handful of times but mostly tastefully with minor characters as the seasons of the show go on.)

2024-11-07 18:26:33 +0000 UTCJack Gleeson (Joffrey) took a break from acting after Game of Thrones, but he's done some other stuff recently. He also had a small role in Batman Begins https://youtu.be/xZ9aIqk4Aaw?si=2_1YoUffe3_VZqH8
