2024-11-03 21:51:52 +0000 UTCSome other things that occurred to me on this drunk rewatch tonight: - Edward would never have been discovered without some very base American capitalism, which stems from the whole "bored housewife" trope (which is a much deeper discussion about financial equality and feminism, but I'll digress). Also Avon was the OG MLM - Anthony Michael Hall always played the nerd before this movie, then was only ever a villain after this.. what happened dude? - Winona's character actually kinda sucks, she's only either the girlfriend or she's chasing a boy. Lots of Bechdel fail here. - BUT her old person makeup was actually amazing, better than most I've seen in the past 35 years (wtf hollywood?)

There's been many essays/theses have been written about the whole allegory of what Edward & the neighborhood represent, but, god damn it, you're right, WHERE THE HELL DOES HE GET THAT ICE FROM? But, yeah, when you hear us old fucks complaining about how no one makes any 'original' movies anymore, you should remember this one. A major studio invested $20 mil ($50 mil in today's money) into this very, very weird idea.

I should note that the last time this happened, they mistakenly posted the full reaction of The Two Towers to a higher tier, so only those people in the higher tier 1. got the notification, 2. saw it in their notifications list, 3. saw it on the home page feed. Diegesis corrected the tier after the fact, which then made it visible on their Patreon page for patrons on that tier but those patrons (us) did not get notified, nor did it appear on our notifications list or our home feed. We could only see it by visiting the Diegesis Patreon page and scroll through until we happen upon it, which is not a thing we normally do since the notifications and home feed keep us updated. So unless we’re clued in by seeing something on YouTube (which was the case with Edward Scissorhands), or in the case of The Two Towers, there was a Gandalf Thirst Trap post referencing a then hidden full reaction post to which someone commented about not seeing a full reaction post, we’d never know that post existed. In the Gandalf Thirst Trap comment thread I asked that they be careful about posting to the wrong tier because simply correcting it later will not update (i.e. appear) in the notifications list. By the way, if you’re following The Penguin reactions, know that episode 3 is available but not in notifications.
