2024-10-28 05:54:25 +0000 UTCPretty sure they haven't seen the Harry Potter films beyond the first one, at least Maple hasn't. And Aberforth is kind of an important character in the last book but he's really the most minor of minor characters in the movies, I wouldn't really expect anyone that hasn't read the books to remember him if you've just seen the movies once.

2024-10-25 17:57:07 +0000 UTCI really mislike a small change they made from the books in this episode, Jon telling Mance about Craster's boys and that being what gets him in. It can seem kind of irrelevant but it's emblematic of the subtle ways in which the show writers change the characters in the show. In the books, Mance tells Jon that he was actually at Winterfell anonymously in that very first episode when King Robert came to make Ned Hand and that he saw Jon there (which I'll admit is kind of ridiculous). Jon then tells Mance that he must have also seen where he sat, not on the dais, but among the commoners. Because the highborn didn't want a bastard among them. And he essentially makes joining the free folk about wanting to be free of that stigma. In some ways, the scenes are similar because in both cases, Jon tells a lie but one that is sprinkled with the truth which makes it believable. But in the books, they center Jon's identity crisis, his feeling of uncertainty in the world and his personal insecurities. While in the show, they make it all about Jon's heroism and his concern for the good of the realm. Which makes Jon a more boring, good-guy hero archetype. And his bastard insecurities are basically swept under the rug after Tyrion gives him that encouraging speech, to make his insecurities his armour. There are a lot of these small things they introduce which kind of makes me sad because I think it really shows how much of the books the show creators didn't really understand. "Themes are for eighth grade book reports" as one of them famously said. Anyway, that's enough raining on the parade ^^' I still like the show (most of it anyway) and this season is admittedly a banger ;-) I'm excited for the rest of it. We criticize because we love.

2024-10-25 06:57:37 +0000 UTCthe crazy thing is in the show she had good reason to do it bc he wouldve been killed that night and if word got to harrenhal or kings landing who knows what they wouldve done to sansa. in the books he in a cell at riverrun he doesnt escape and kill the karstark man. but she is written so well to me i still stand with her lol

2024-10-25 02:55:42 +0000 UTCYou may have missed it, but Mance Rayder's actor also played a role in Harry Potter, even though it's kind of a minor part I suppose.

2024-10-24 16:31:56 +0000 UTCYeah I agree. It was a dumb move by Cat but it was also completely understandable on an emotional level. Like she's not evil. To some extent, they even softened Cat a lot from the books where she's much more judgmental and often quite dismissive of other people's emotions; I actually think that's to the character's detriment because it makes her less interesting but it also makes her easier to sympathize with.

2024-10-24 16:17:05 +0000 UTCwait why is cat in your dislike list? bc of one choose she made? that was kinda understandable, she was being manipulated by littlefinger and who wouldnt betray someone to get their kids back? it wasnt smart but still iidk if it fucks the entirety of her character. to hear "joffrey, theon, cersei and CAT's name next to each other is absolutely insne

2024-10-24 15:35:06 +0000 UTCA good lie is 80% truth. Jon Snow really was appalled when Mormont already knew Craster was giving his baby boys to the white walkers. You're right telling Mance really was a baller move.
