Game of Thrones 2x9

Bodkin arrows were specifically made to pierce armor but no matter what, any hollywood depiction of archers is always nonsense. Even against unarmored targets, archers aren't as effective as they're depicted. If Stannis has 100,000 men and every single last one of them stood still in arrow range and the city had 100,000 arrows, they might kill like , 5,000 soldiers. The whole battle is tremendously ridiculous and unrealistic for the sole purpose of punishing the "good" guys in the story and building up what is universally considered the antagonist - the Lannisters. Tywin, who's been getting his ass handed to him by Robb, somehow with the Tyrell's help has enough men to come all the way to King's Landing and rout Stannis' entire army. So much of this episode is pure Two Towers tomfoolery but for the bad guys instead.

I noticed that too.

When I watched this episode the first time, I knew the show was very good, but after this episode I knew I was watching greatness. Best episode up to this point and a top 5 GOT episode for me. And my favorite Lena Headey performance of the entire series.

I’ve been liking that these GoT episodes have more discussion at the end of them 👍

Adam Barker

And probably the first time anyone kept it a buck with Sansa as well tbh

I hope ya'll go back and listen to the end credits song; it's a beautiful rendition of The Rains of Castamere, which is the song Bronn and the guards were singing. Pay attention to the lyrics ;)

Say what you want about Stannis Baratheon but after deciding to do the landing attack after having all his ships blown up, he led the vanguard, climbed the wall and fought at the front. I think Robert would have done the same, and Ned, they're all cut from the same insane cloth. He puts his money where his mouth is like yeah, 1000s will die, and i'll be at the front leading them. "Why not kill Joffrey like Renly?" besides logistics, killing Joffrey doesn't help things too much. Stannis killed Renly because he refused to concede, and his death made most of Renly's army switch to Stannis cuz 🤷 he's renly's bro, close enough. If Joffrey dies his younger brother Tommen becomes king, and he's too young to rule, so Cersei or Tyrion or Tywin become queen/king reagent (ruling in the king's place until he comes of age). This might be a worse situation for Stannis lol, Joffrey being alive is a wrench in the works cuz he's such an asshole.

Agreed, that was probably the first time she'd been truly honest with Sansa

I actually don’t think she’s trying to antagonize Sansa at all. It might seem blunt but she’s just keeping it real and telling her the realities of being Queen/a woman in the game. Sansa’s only other option was to sit with a bunch of scared ladies and pray all night.

Popcorn Hiccup, for anyone that needs a band name.

at around 31:55, the subtitles say "whores" instead of "horse". kinda funny. I was like, Stannis doesnt have whores.

Regarding why Cersei would poison her son Tommen. This was touched on in season 1 (and expounded on in the Season 1 History and Lore) but the last time King's Landing was raided, the Targaryen royal family, including women and children, were all slaughtered. Prince Rhaegar Targaryen's wife and children were gruesomely killed; the wife was raped with her children's blood still on her, before she herself was killed. Ironically enough, it was the Lannisters that sacked the city. Cersei was not going to let that happen to her and her children if she could help it.

To answer your question Maple, no, arrows can't pierce any halfway decently made plate armor. It's a mistake too many shows and movies make. You might obviously get through the mesh of mail armor with an arrow but even then, the thick wool gambeson that most soldiers would be wearing underneath that will probably stop an arrow enough to not kill them if it's not coming from like 5 feet away from them. Arrows are good en masse, when they're just raining down on an enemy army, one for the fear factor, and two because eventually, some of them will find gaps in armor like in the neck, or armpits or somewhere in the legs.

I always call the ninth episode of each GOT season the "BIG SHIT HAPPENS" episode, this is no exception!! :)

Chris Bruneau

Cersei wants to get in one last torment of Sansa before the possibility of capture or death.💀

Remember Davos convinced Stannis to leave The Red Woman behind, so demon babies and any magic was off the table. Also, it’s wild how Littlefinger and Tywin’s talk basically tells you they’re gonna join up to stop Stannis, but the focus of that scene is on Arya trying to stay hidden.

MacJordanT

Maple over there frying her brain over hrs logged 😂
