If we're talking strictly horror then yea bly wasn't especially strong in that aspect but I enjoyed the story telling quite alot. There were a couple moments where it was slow but for the most part I thought it was a fun one time watch. Maybe a little predictable but filmed well.

And cheating with his OTHER sister in law??? Also its so sad seeing young Nell crying that no one could see or hear her, that's what happened to her while she was struggling as an adult, no one paid attention to her :/

The scares, if you want to call them that, were so flat and uninvolving, almost felt like an afterthought - no atmosphere, just there. And most of the characters were so very insipid and, well, flat is also a good way to describe them. Was nice to see Victoria Pedretti (Nell) and Oliver Jackson- Cohen (Luke) back together, but they were both lumbered with soap opera level writing. Horrible to watch. However, Midnight Mass is THE perfect horror show for you guys to do.

2024-09-17 03:51:37 +0000 UTC@TinCan I couldn't disagree more. I know this is a hot take, but I think Midnight Mass tried way too hard with the aspects of trying to be "deep". I still like it a lot, but it gets almost over the top preachy sometimes to the point that it completely takes me out of it by making me be fully aware and conscience of the fact that we're currently in the middle of a "deep" dialogue. Bly, while not nearly on the level of Hill House, to me still achieves that better middle ground of not trying too hard, but still being thought provoking, emotional and maintaining horror. Plus, Victoria Pedretti is phenomenal as usual lol.

It takes five episodes ahead of this, focusing on one character at a time, to really make it hit when they're all together in a room. I don't know if this episode or episode 5 is my favorite, but both rank very high on my list of favorite tv episodes.

2024-09-16 23:03:24 +0000 UTCI know you guys commented on the spinning camera, but IDK if you caught on that the entire episode was shot to appear as a "one-shot." It wasn't truly all just one shot and one take, but it was split into only 5 continuous shots with the longest being 17 minutes long. The amount of planning, rehearsing, and orchestrating involved with getting that all right, especially with a cast that includes some really young kids, is truly impressive stuff. If you feel inclined, there is a kind of BTS video on YT from Insider that covers how they managed to do everything. Great reaction as always, as well!
