Chad doesn't like season 4...

You just gave The Boys the time of the day though.

Ronald Foster

I agree with Chad. This season has just been spinning wheels with none of the characters (save for Homelander) developing in the slightest. Not to mention the writing is real lazy with ripping off the baby arm jokes from Deadpool, the basic idea of Fight Club and the BDSM scene from Eurotrip. They straight lifted all of those things and didn't even do them well. Also Frenchies B plot is boring and takes up screen time that is needed for other more important characters.

Ronald Foster

I was hoping for sooner rather than later. Do you need haunting suggestions for October. I can give you some but I'm not sure what they watched previously. There is also the haunting of Blythe Manor and Midnight Mass. Have they seen the Scream franchise, insidious, conjuring, Halloween old and new. Not every sequel is great but some are quite good.

Melanie Roberts

I'm enjoying it, it's a dumb superhero show guys, let's not let it get our blood pressure up. I'm laughing consistently which is why I liked it to begin with.

Owen Kosik

Fingers crossed for Shaun of the Dead.

Woz Lee

we're thinking of timing it closer to october since we're already so close.

Chad Gloria

I lost interest after season 2 and yeah I got tired of the gore. I thought I remembered reading that The Haunting of Hill House was on the list but now I can't remember where I saw that. Are we getting season 1 The Haunting of Hill House now that FleaBag is over? I've been waiting but thought I would just go ahead and ask. Season 1 Hill House is one of my favorites to rewatch.

Melanie Roberts

Season 3 has been the peak of this series so far, but 4 is clearly already better than seasons 1 & 2. It feels more grounded and less goofy than previous seasons, and like they’re actually delving deeper into all of the characters. Not every plot line has hit yet, but to make this judgment 4 episodes into the season is pretty weird to me lol.

DDK

yeah we're watching as much as we can tomorrow!

Chad Gloria

I agree. The Boys got pretty tired to me in season 3 as well, when I just got bored with the “they come up with a fool proof plan to beat Homelander but then he just manages to slip away” or in the most maddening move ever, Butcher just….lets him go? Because of a kid who is clearly just aching to become the next homelander? That’s entirely out of Butcher’s character. The sister Sage character is wholly unimpressive, she has shown herself to be so intelligent that she’s come up with, checks notes, a standard social media marketing strategy? On the excess gore, its reminding me of Sons of Anarchy, which as it got into the later seasons started running out of fresh story ideas so just had to lean on essentially becoming pulp television. Coming up with the most horrific gore spots or the edgiest sex scenes they could get away with on cable. It felt like the writing became “hmm, how can we get to a scene where a guy bites his own tongue off” instead of them organically getting to that scene and deciding that’s what the character would do in that situation. At least the new season of The Bear starts today.

Pretty spot on analysis in my opinion. I legitimately had a “aw man…So the shows not getting better” moment when I got to season 3 and saw that they were basically forcing in crazy over the top moments. While it was always crazy, the stakes felt real and it kept me actually wondering what’s gonna happen in seasons 1 and 2. Now it’s like a clown show lol

Aust

Drop your favorite show and explain why it's better

Why Do I Have Subs

lmaooo imagine being this pretentious over a superhero TV show

Victor

I’d give anything to be as ignorant to bad writing as so many of you are! It’s such a burden having to think and consider plot lines and character arcs. I wish I could just be retarded and enjoy slop!!

cat named toebean

So funny to see people talking down about it like the show was ever supposed to be a thought-provoking masterpiece instead of the very topical and goofy show with lots of gore it has always been.

Victor

what's goofy about sticking a bomb up an invisible superhero's butt and pulling the trigger? Was it getting the idea from watching a turtle on NatGeo?

Demented Avenger

Outside character names and a couple motivations, the show and the comic are nothing alike.

Demented Avenger

season 4 been great.

ZitherManifesto

Season 4 has been fantastic so far.

Jean-Joseph Benoit

The show from the beginning was loosely based on the comics, so the argument that it "goes away from the source material" doesn't apply

Jean-Joseph Benoit

Must be miserable not to be able to enjoy S4 because it's been great. Unlucky for y'all I guess

Victor

yeah jumped the shark is right

Chad Gloria

exactly what Kara said. plus we've said that our polls are rarely "winner wins" we do polls to collect data on interests levels and we know that certain huge shows like GoT or the Sopranos are often going to win on popularity alone but that doesnt reflect the "interest pressure" completely. on top of that shows like the sopranos are so old that we can cover them whenever and theyre probably not going to be less relevant in a few months than they are now also, we're trying to maintain "slots" so a show like the sopranos would replace a show like breaking bad rather than a show like fleabag. i hope that clears some of our processes up

Chad Gloria

"My Two Dad's" was ripe for the taking and they fumbled the bag. i want a laugh track!

Chad Gloria

I love season 4 so far!

Infinite tsukuyomi (he him)

Season 4 sucks. Totally different from season 1!

Doc Holliday

People couldn't handle their Walter White takes, they're gonna pop a blood vessel watching the girls react to Tony lol

Kara

Oh god. the video is worse than I thought. You fundamentally did not understand what type of show this was from Season 1. The show has not changed it's tone at all. It's always been goofy as shit, always been gratuitous. This is a you problem, not a show problem

Curtis Murphy

Chad: I believe the term you are looking for is "jumped the shark"-- its really bad, I sure as fuck wont be watching

Chris Bruneau

It's not really clumsy at all, bud

Curtis Murphy

The media literacy of you people is fucking non existent.

Curtis Murphy

The original source material is shit

Curtis Murphy

So you don't actually know what the show is like, buddy

Curtis Murphy

Off topic but how long you gunna gatekeep the sopranos chad :D it was pretty high up on the recent poll, give the people what they wantttt

MC

No, it hasn't. There are plenty of good scenes in the 4th season

Why Do I Have Subs

I honestly think that the show relied a lot on its subversive nature for its success and that has worn away with time and exposure. In the end, I suspect it's main legacy will be bringing Antony Starr into the limelight because beyond his exceptional performance, the show has never been as good as it was claimed to be. It was just fresh and came out during the superhero craze

Zane Platt

Ehhh, I don't think it not following the O.G source material is the issue here. The comic is not very good at all. It really isn't. It is simplistic, obsessed with shock value and pretty damn repetitive. I gave up on the Boys after season 2. The writing was on the wall already then. Feels good to know that I'm not alone in being severely disappointed with how flat and inane the writing of it became.

Henkan

Haven't even started season 4 yet because the ending for 3 felt like such a waste of my time. Seeing this video from Chad and hearing that they are finishing in TWO seasons and NOT this one I was like ehhhh maybe I'll just wait til this whole shitshow is over and see if it's even WORTH getting back into. 👎🏽

Ron B

When they didn't go with the clear choice of converting the show into a two dads raising Ryan sitcom after season 2 there was only so much time. Then after all the merch and the spin-off shows... It's going better than I expected. Season 5 though--yikes.

Nate Judge

Totally agree with you Chad. This show is going out like Game of Thrones. Great beginning to a complete train wreck in the final seasons. All because the show runners wanted to go away from the original source material.

Stanley Etienne

While I do agree that season 4 is the weakest so far, I personally disagree with a lot of your observations. It seems like you just don't like what the show is at it's core, which is totally fine. The goofiness you talk about isn't the show randomly changing. It's been that way for the majority of it's life. Season 2 was also goofy as hell and so is a portion of season 1. It's also always been gratuitous. It's meant to be campy. Personally found season 3 to be the best one by far from a story perspective, especially the second half. I do agree with what you said about the Frenchie stuff for season 4, but Homelander is more interesting than he's probably ever been in the series.

Evan

yeah i think the most painful part of season 3 was feeling like just about nothing got accomplished the whole season. you're right, the immediate change that comes to mind is ryan but we're only 4 episodes into season 4 and it already feels like they're undoing the ryan situation. idk.

Chad Gloria

Hated the way season 3 ended, literally made the entire season shit since basically nothing happened besides Ryan "joining" Homelander. And they didn't even have the balls to just kill of Maeve. Also this season is fine for me so far, but I agree that some story lines are really stupid. It takes me fighting every fibre in my body not to skip the scenes involving Frenchie/Kimiko. Just don't give a single shit about their story line. At least they aren't gonna drag it on for like 8 seasons with the next one being the last. Overall, I won't judge this season until it's over cause season 3 was shaping to be my favourite until it's ending.

blitzman08

And i am glad you're digging the escalation.

Chad Gloria

yeah, although I think nearly anyone should be able to agree that the show is very clumsy with how it handles political commentary, i can't afford to look like any number of alt right commentators trying to start a turf war so i made it a point to avoid getting into it, but it aint great either lol.

Chad Gloria

......Imagine ''giving the boys'' *any* time of day, or thinking any of it substantial. It was made by a bunch of loser, gaumy, wannabe edgelord British hipster *children* doing the exact ''what if Hulk raped his cousin and ate people'' ''Beavis and Butthead (nice dated reference btw) Shit way back in the early 00s... Also Flanders is *always* funny. Especially the ''Nothin' At All'' bit. Shit's hilarious. Kripke saying; ''The Trolls can Fuck off into the sun'' though? Chef's kiss (as much as I hate Kripke). -'nough said.

Diiirk706

"Why even write it that way, you can write anything!" this is why i'm so harsh on these people who write very expensive shows for a living. if it's stupid, rewrite it until it isn't! and yeah i feel very similar about season 2 of invincible. i dont remember anything being especially bad but i do remember it being painfully boring. i just couldnt care about the plot and i think the focused plot of season 1 benefitted greatly from that. Natalie Gold made a similar point about invincible not having a very strong story aside from the Ominiman subplot and i agree. I can't stress enough how much i think that when The Boys is good it's very good, but it's been a long time since the last good scene.

Chad Gloria

Cause it's shit

Aaron Pires

Chad, I agree! There are good bits but I literally find myself skipping thru certain plotlines. The show loses all energy and pace when it's not focused on Billy, Starlight/Firecracker or Homelander. I'm not a big plot hole person but the ice skating scene was exceptionally stupid... Homelander simply forgot he has X-ray vision? Why even write it that way, you can write anything! Frenchies storyline is the deadest of all of them (I'm queer before anyone gets mad). Every scene has soooo much exposition like they don't trust the audience at all. This might be sacrilege but I also feel the same way about Invincible lol. Makes me appreciate shows that actually stick the landing.

Kara

I appreciate the well presented and not clici bait critique. I actually am all for the crazy antics of s3, but I agree with alot of the character observations, atleast in a sizable part.
