AFAIC they can kill they heck out of Claire. Very few can stand her, she's so damn broody and emo. SHE'S the main reason the 'Wayward Sisters' didn't take off, according to many fans. Because it seemed to be focused more on her. But for some reason Kaia never bothered me, like Claire did.

If they ever explained how/why the other rift opened, I don't remember. I wish I knew, because that bugs me.

Dark Kaia seems to be a badass with that spear, and I hope to see more of her.

God, I wish this pilot had been picked up. It would have been so damn good.
And I agree, the Dark Kaia revelation does NOT make up for losing our Kaia in her nightmare world. Not even close.

So, further to Shelley's comment on the 'Claire and Kaia' closeness of it all ...
Fans immediately noticed the closeness of Claire and Kaia 20-minutes into the episode when it aired live, and Jules of Superwiki then tweeted -
- I think the DreamHunter ship just set sail ! #Supernatural #WaywardSisters

Fans then latched onto this and started including and tweeting the 'DreamHunter' ship name in their tweets.

And eventually, Bobo noticed that ship name and also joined in and showed his support by tweeting -
- Dreamhunter. #Supernatural #WaywardSisters

Robert Berens on Dreamhunter (Claire x Kaia) during Random Acts’ “Gaming For Kindness” live stream four years ago,
“I was gratified that people saw what we wanted them to see.”

A majority of fans believed that this was the one. This was a great idea for a spin off. The support was loud and constant. Kim and Brianna are adored by so many and the possibilities were endless regarding guest appearances. There were t'shirts and a countdown to episode 10! The vibe was pretty positive, the CW seemed on board. It was sad how disappointed so many of us were. I really like the setup,
the layers we were given and the character interactions in this pilot. There was a solid foundation to move forward from. It still makes me sad it didn't get a chance to spread it's wings and truly fly. ❤️🩹

On the loss of this spinoff for the fans, for a while, I also did attribute it to Legacies, as the latter was such a late-minute entry into the fray of competing for pilots' potential at that time.
However, I came across the rumors that (as this is a speculative basis so no citations) there were mentions of Charmed being the one chosen instead of Wayward Sisters. This news, as I recall, came out of the M&G of Kim Rhodes and somehow, Harvey Weinstein - the creep- was involved with that show and in ushering it into the CW? Not sure how the mechanics worked, but he did have a lot of his sticky fingers in the industries. Also, if I am not mistaken, Briana also normally was paired with Kim in most of their M&Gs. Assuming that this rumor is true, this kinda tracked how Mark Pedowitz earlier (as stated in @Karen's comments above) stated his position and his positive reaction to the episode prior to the announcement, and that he was FOR the spinoff. But later turned 180 when the official news came out. Maybe he had to cave to someone higher in the food chain of the network**. Andrew Dabb had also mentioned before official news came out, that they intend to 'cross-pollinate' between Supernatural and Wayward Sisters - meaning crossing over of actors between the two shows, especially the main characters of the og series. So saying that there was going to be no Sam and Dean in the spinoff (and therefore lessen the value of it) contradicted the message.
** Sidenote: Higher meaning, Pedowitz was CEO of CW network, right?... so higher meaning from WB or CBS themselves, which I assumed over ranked Pedowitz. Since CW was the merged product of CBS and WB so I thought suits from its parent companies would have had more power over Pedowitz. This meant they really threw Pedowitz under the bus when come official announcement day.
And let's face it, the real truth here - there was a demand for the Wayward Sisters with its much-loved characters. Just compare that to The Winchesters, the spinoff with characters that were very polemic characters in og series. Even with this handicap, TW is still making high digital numbers outside of the US in streaming currently. Imagine if we manage to get Wayward that was beloved ... ugh the loss in potential ... HBO Max is the streaming channel OUSA that currently airs it, and from the latest news in HBO Max's most watched lists, it even upstaged Game of Thrones and fall 2nd only to House of Dragons which is the first on the list. And in the US, so far whenever it is available, the ratings also were very encouraging in the demo; however, we need to see until the season's end to make an informed conclusion as many episodes were pre-empted in the course of its season so the weekly ratings are kinda off.

So glad that you liked this episode, Shelley, knew you would ...
So ... some clarifications are due for the request of 'not reading the title' here ... this is mainly to prevent the connection that you might make on the 'wayward sisters' phrase (if there were any) in the comments sections on your Youtube channel, or anywhere in the real world online publications previously, to this episode that was meant as a backdoor pilot. I've seen reactors that did make the connection. So, kudos to you and your moderators that managed to control those spoilers - specifically on the title - for this episode.
And as per my 2nd request on the reaction for the Song Montage of the Road So Far or Previously on, well, a bit of a bummer that we didn't get that. So that one we didn't get to see ... however, did you manage to watch it when you edited it? I presumed you did ... but if not, please do so because as per Robert Berens, the writer and potential showrunner of this spinoff that we've lost, wrote on Twitter, the song and montage were a love letter to the #WaywardSisters movement/campaign by the SPN fans. Yes, this episode/spinoff was more or less requested by the fans ever since Bloodlines failed -- it's taken 5 years in the making (from S9 to S13).

Yes! #JusticeforKaia BTW: The actress, Yadira Guevera-Prip, is really good and was on See with Jason Momoa.
Unpopular opinion: To me Wayward Sisters was a universe-better than Bloodlines, but I have to say I never liked the fact that the two new WOC were the ones that had to be protected and/or trained and shown the way. And I was devastated that we lost Kaia so immediately. Like you said, esPECially in her nightmare world.
So, overall for me, this was a backdoor pilot with some strengths, but also flawed.

Yes, this was a backdoor pilot of a spin off with the same title "wayward sisters" and i loved it & was crushed when it didn't get picked up, i will never forgive the cw for this, mark pedowitz (the head of the CW) believed there was no supernatural without Sam & dean so any spin off that doesn't have Sam & dean wasn't going to work in his opinion & i hated that he thought that coz i would've lived for that spin off, out of the three supernatural spin off ideas (bloodline, wayward sisters & the winchesters) wayward sisters is definitely the most appealing idea to me coz like you said why wouldn't you do a show about characters that we already know and LOVE!!! I still mourn wayward sisters, we really could've had it all, Kim & Brianna were so excited for it & most of the fandom was rooting for it, anyway, claire & kaia definitely gave me dean & cas vibes too!! Especially when dean had to hold Claire back away from kaia into the rift it's the same visual & a parallel to Sam pulling dean away from cas & into the rift when cas charged at lucifer with the angel blade in season 12's finale, one more thing, i think cas being imprisoned is by far the dumbest excuse supernatural had for keeping cas out of the plot sigh

I agree, in opposite to Bloodlines, I would have loved to see a whole spin-off for Wayward Sisters.
I am happy that Robert Berens, the writer who was one of the main creatives for the development of it, kept on writing for Supernatural though.
