i really want to recommend Drumline (2002)

Stop projecting. Best case scenario, you're somewhat above average at something and a complete dick. You don't like the idea that someone can be great while having a healthy lifestyle because you couldn't achieve that. That's okay. You're just not good enough :)

Richie Daniels

Dude, how on Earth would you know what it takes to be great? You don't even contruct sentences properly let alone compose incredible symphonies or author tremendous works. A lot of the greatest pieces of art came from pampered people during the renaissance. These guys were being hardly struggling lmao.

Zane Platt

Sounds like you just don't really have your finger on the pulse of what people are creating, there is art worth experiencing in every sector, in every country. Broaden your horizons, old man. Go watch some French or Korean films or listen to some South African music or read some modern Latin poetry. This film itself was written and directed by a dude who I'm 100% sure is younger than you. And I'm also 100% sure you have never been artistically inclined to create or contribute anything in your life, ever. What instruments do you play, my guy? Can we watch any performances of yours on YouTube? How about any paintings you've made? Have you ever worked as a professional artist, in any capacity? Or are you just a mindless consumer that complains when he can't find what he wants?

ope someone's taking some weird aggression out on someone they don't know tonight

mcegan

you sound weak and pathetic.

Ren Field

oh go on somewhere mate. just because you’re not a good enough artist, and tell yourself these things that make you feel better about yourself, doesn’t change history.

Ren Field

people can be great artists without abuse or trauma, that's not needed for talent to exist. "fletcher goes too far but thats just a movie lol" no this happens in real life.

mcegan

i fear people dont understand what it takes to actually be "great" anymore. they think making a tiktok that gets 30k views means they're great. kind of depressing

JC Evitt

to be fair, in relation to the discussion comments made, the culture has become far more “soft” and we’ll see the results of that in 20-50 years. We already are, but the state of art will be pitiful in relation to what we have gotten. The best art has come in the worst of circumstances. Obviously, Fletcher goes too far, but that’s just a movie. lol

JC Evitt

Oh yes! I know what I’m watching today.

Myles

This shit still gives me horrible flashbacks to my high school orchestra teacher 😅 this way of "teaching" is still very much alive and well, and you don't need to go to the highest levels of competition to see it.

John Cedar

this film is so amazing and after repeat views, still makes me uncomfortable. it asks hard questions: How far are you willing to push yourself to succeed? How far are you willing to push someone else to force them on the path to success? BTW JK Simmons deserved his oscar--the role of a lifetime!!!

Chris Bruneau

You two have become fast favorites. AMONG our favorites, but that’s fine of course.

ChickensAreRacist

TinCan Cosmanaut
