Supernatural - “Season 11 Wrap Up" Review

Supernatural - “Season 11 Wrap Up" Review

Great wrap up reaction! As much as I loved several of s11 episodes, I’m still more than happy to put that season in my rear view window. Honesty time— I didn’t love much of s12 on first watch. However.. I have come to really really like it (and appreciate it) on subsequent watches. There are a couple episodes that still make me cringe, but regardless…. I really love what season 12 brings us and can’t wait to see your reactions!

I never thought of it that way— and what a fantastic explanation!!! You hit the nail exactly on the head!!

Yes like the other comments said think of this part of the show as a soft reboot. A new beginning to the new arc. Many things will be changing as new players and situations happen now. I think even the lighting starts changing for the show as well. Loved your discussion and predictions. Can't wait for the premiere. Now I feel Amara got her revenge on chuck in 12x22 before then all she could do was sit with that anger and take it out on his creations. But once she did it her head could clear and that is what dean talked about. Revenge only feels good for a bit before you have to come back to normal. Once she hurt him she realizes that it does not make her feel what she thought. She was just hurt more then bloodthirsty but she did not recognize that until she has done it. That is why it seemed too easy.

Agree with everything you've said about The Vessel. S3 is one of my favorites, too. Glad I'm not alone in this! Thank you.

Shelley - FYI: According to the script of this episode written by Robbie Thompson, which explicitly refers to the amulet by the fandom name "The Samulet," Sam retrieved the amulet after Dean discarded it in 5.16 Dark Side of the Moon, and had carried it "all these years. This whole damn time." The amulet is glowing, and it finally leads them to God. In the next episode, Dean puts it in his pocket after God transports them back to the Bunker. http://www.supernaturalwiki.com/Samulet

My comment got deleted, so I'm going to retry – I don't love this season as a whole (let me just get that out of the way); while I don't rank seasons, I couldn't put it in a tier above seasons 3 or 1; however, season 11 has some frickin' stellar episodes. I'd have a hard time arguing that any of these top five are anything other than excellent. I just want to give a quick shout to The Vessel as well. Personally, I might shuffle it into the top 5 and take out Don’t Call Me Shirley -- not putting The Vessel at the second position or anything bc again – rankings – but it's so, so good. It's not my "favorite" or whatever of the season (Hey, Baby. S'up.), but, other than a couple cringe scenes, the episode was so *smart.* -- because, if we think about it, at that point in history, the Allies were basically *losing,* like actually, legitimately losing. We like to tell the story in the US that this country joining the war turned the tide, and the Nazis were beaten back with Am-Ur(!)-ican gumption. Yet, that's just not the case. For years before and for a while after the US joined the war, the Nazis were a juggernaut, an insurmountable force. What a savvy metaphor for the boys to face while not – at all – hitting us in the face with why the show was using Nazis. (Plus all the other nerdy, character, and performance stuff I utterly enjoyed.) Also, the ending on the dock… so bittersweet... a blade of grass through concrete… Again, so, so smart.

Can't believe we are 11 seasons down already I remember it being around season 6 when I discovered you on youtube and binged all of your reactions very interested to start season 12 I have always said it is my least favourite season but I havent watched it in it's entirety in a good few years so curious if my opinion will have changed.

OMG Shelley your top three episodes are all Robbie Thompson's, yay! ... This bodes well for The Winchesters for you ... Red Meat and Devil's in the Details are both Dabb episodes, with Beren as a collab for Red Meat. This might also bode well for S12-S15 for you, we'll see, as both stayed until the series ended. Ho boy, if only there is a list of some of the things you have said, that have come to pass .... your understanding of this little show is so good. Welcome to Season 12, where they kinda do a soft reset of the show. There's a fresh batch of writers who came on board this coming season replacing Nancy Won, Robbie, and Eric Charmelo/Nicole Snyder duo. They are: Steve Yockey, Davy Perez, and Meredith Glynn. Yockey later went on to helm The Flight Attendant with Kaley Cuoco as the headliner, Glynn went on to The Boys to join Eric Kripke and Perez went on to Star Trek: Discovery. Of the three, I loved Yockey and Glynn best, but Davy also had his moments. See you in season 12! ...

The dean speech to amara should feel as satisfying as dean convincing cas to change his mind in season 4's finale, both finales has dean convincing a celestial being to give up the only thing they knew & choose another way, but it doesn't coz in season 4 we see the gradual evolution of dean & cas's relationship growing & we see cas's doubt growing, dean & cas have talks about their emotions & what they believe, dean & amara have talks about how they're "bound to each other" for no reason whatsoever, it makes no sense for her to do a 180 in one episode like that, she was so determined to kill chuck until the previous episodes but okay, anyway i am excited to relive season 12 with you 🥰
