I think Wyatt feels so much guilt over his wife’s death that even if their marriage was actually never all that great, and even if he loves Lucy now, I think the guilt would make him feel like he has to fight for his marriage. Which is sad—I don’t think anyone should stay in a relationship because of guilt. But on the other hand.. I can’t say I really blame him because I don’t know how I would act in such an extreme situation.
