The parallel of how Cain said his wife asked only one thing of him—to stop.. and then Cas says to Dean, “Stop.” Omg my heart.😢😢😢

@Katherine, absolutely re those two and those moments in general. I laughed out loud also at the registration / driver's license mismatching "Good enough!" moment. In such a dark episode, such things ensure complexity, levels, enjoyability, etc., etc.

Actually, I think that is one of SPN's greatest strengths- having those little moments of brightness or laughter in the midst of very dark plots. They've always excelled at that, and it's something that I really appreciate. It's probably why M*A*S*H* was another one of my favourite shows as a kid, because they were the masters of blending darkness and laughter.

So slightly off topic, but the actor who played Eldon Styne is Aussie, and was in one of my favourite shows as a kid, Ocean Girl (that is, I was a kid when it was airing, and he was a kid when he acted in it). His fake southern accent here is... not great, but I still enjoyed the little hit of nostalgia. I also loved Dean's 7 nipples speech. And the boyish look on his face when he tells the cop he'll be escaping. These are the parts of the episode that made me happy.

I think Dean really has been a ticking time bomb and Sam is right on that front. We have to remember that Sam and Dean know each other better than pretty much anyone else. If Sam sees it, he would know better than others. He knows when Dean is hiding how he really feels. I think the show could have done a better job of showing us that Dean was getting closer and closer to the edge. While we have some instances especially early and mid season, there could have been more, even small, moments showing this later. Dean is usually our POV character and when he’s more contained and his emotions are locked up, it can be hard for the audience to know just know how he’s really doing. All of the above being said, Sam also clearly made mistakes here by lying to Dean and maneuvering behind his back, while leaving Cas to try and handle Rowena and Charlie. However, I don’t think if Sam was honest with Dean everything would have just gone smoothly. When Dean confronted / interrogated Sam last episode, he was very menacing and furious that Sam didn’t burn the book, didn’t obey him. I don’t think this MOC Dean would have just shrugged off Sam working on the mark and let him just go about his business while he just sat aside fuming. I don’t think there are any good answers in this situation, just wrong and more wrong. I don’t blame Sam at all for being okay with killing Crowley, much as I like the character, given all he has done in the past. But as others have said, he did seem a bit half-hearted about it and justifying his actions.

Really good reaction 😄👍🏻 A little thing that gets me at the end of the episode is that Dean’s Theme music plays as he leaves Cas. Dean’s Theme only usually plays in really emotional scenes involving family and Cas only gets it a handful of times. There was a refrain when Dean prayed to Cas to watch over Sam in the Trials but Cas first got it on screen bonding with Sam in 9x11 while Dean was off with Crowley meeting Cain for the first time. Then he gets it again at the end of 10x03 after stopping Demon Dean, and Dean thanks him for being there. But this time it’s just about Cas and Dean and it really shows how bad the situation is because Cas is family.

I love your reaction. That fight at the end, if you listen to the metal - you can hear it hitting some hard. My first time watching it I picked up on it so I knew he hadn't stabbed Cas. I think you were too busy yelling at the TV to hear it though!

Sam is so amped up, moreso than Dean was. If Sam & Charlie & Cas & Rowena hadn't lied, leading to Charlie's death, than Dean probably wouldn't have gone so dark. I think killing Cyrus was the worst thing Dean has ever really done, on the show.

I think we did need to see the background of the Styne's, to show what they do and how it's affected Cyrus. And to make us sympathesize with him.

I love, love, love the scene with Crowley. He's such a badass.

The only way the dungeon could hold Dean is if they first killed him, because it can hold a demon, but not human Dean.

Cas could have fought harder but didn't want to hurt Dean. Dean was a tiicking time bomb, You were just in denial. You are the only reactor I have seen who thinks he is not getting worse well before this. Dean has been fighting the mark, but with little success and it has been pushing him towards hating Sam. Blaming Sam makes no sense. If anything, Charlie is to blame. She was told not to go off alone. Dean only blames Sam because the mark makes him aim all his anger at Sam.

I know we don't like this Dean, but can we send him temporarily back to season 5 and watch him beat the crap out of Zachariah?

Steve Quast

“Yeah, well I kill gods.” Ramped up enough for you? :)
