This is really interesting actually because I’m an INTJ and a non-literal thinker, and the amount of filler noises I make when talking is ridiculous, so it’s nice to have a possible explanation. Now that I’m thinking about it, it could be why I also have slow processing— because I have to essentially translate words into my thoughts and vice versa

Kit

True that.

No system is capable of capturing the entirety of a person, imho. 😌

The MBTI is fun, but it’s not a real picture of who you are as a person. So be careful of that, that’s all I’m saying. But no, not everyone thinks in words. I don’t. I think in concepts, and my education has somewhat helped me to put it into words. Personally, I’m not that person that says “uh” or “um”, but that’s because I’m not likely to say anything at first because I’m an introvert. I know the concept of what I want to say pretty much immediately, but it takes me a second to figure out how. I imagine that if I were extroverted, I would feel more comfortable jumping into conversation, even if my verbiage hadn’t caught up quite yet.

Huh. That's really interesting... and it's actually on topic with something I've been pondering a lot lately as I help my niece and nephew with their schoolwork because they seem to process information differently than I do. I do think in words, and I'm realizing now I almost never say "um" or "uh," but I'll take a fair number of small pauses while I'm editing what I'm saying to make sure it's coming out clearly for the listener. Basically, the first draft is in my head. The second draft is what I say. (Perfectionism and Introversion, anyone?) I used to think everyone thought in words. I bet there are a ton of people who assume everyone thinks in pictures. I'll have to check out this Myers-Briggs system. 👍 -- ETA: Apparently, I'm an INFJ-T... I feel it'd somehow be more comforting if any part of the test results surprised me. 😜

@SKK 😂😘 thank you ☺️

"Um Saga" = amazing 😂

I have heard that those “filler” sounds are an indicator of an “intuitive” personality in the Myers-Briggs system, someone with an N as the second letter in their type. Basically, you have a thought in abstract terms, then you have to fight to find the words to express it. Alternatively, it may indicate that you’re a non-literal thinker; that is, you think in ideas or pictures or concepts, not in words, so you have something you want to say but there’s a translation process that has to happen first. Extroversion can sometimes complicate that, because they figure out that they have something to say and start to vocalize it before they figure out exactly how to say it. Perfectionism is also a complicating factor, because they take longer than average to figure out how to say something, out of fear of saying it wrong. It can be any or all of those. All that to say, it’s definitely not an intelligence thing, it’s far more of a personality thing.
