I agree with a lot of what you said here.. and definitely about how Dean views family as the highest form of love. I admit I do still ship destiel though. You may be interested in watching a series of videos I found on YouTube created by Bob Wess. They are called A bi-man breaks down destiel (or something close to that.) He works in the film industry (not on SPN) and talks about how that affected destiel as well as doing a superb job (imho) of breaking down dean and cas’s relationship season by season. I was kind of on the fence about the whole Destiel thing on first watch of the series.. but definitely saw it much more clearly on rewatch and esp after watching his videos.

Loved the wrap up!!!! With regards to Dean and Cas, I agree that show is really pushing that Cas loves Dean. I will admit that while I want to ship them. I think it's difficult to really understand how either of these characters view romantic love. Cas just began to have feelings in 5 years ago. And he admits this season that he has only begun to understand human emotion. Several times in season 6 and 7, Dean calls Cas a child, and I think there is a reason for that. I think Cas's understanding of humanity was very childlike at the time. I think he has learned more now, but I still think of him as maybe a teenager at this point. So, while I think it's true that he loves Dean, it is hard to say at this point what he even thinks his love means.
With regards to Dean, I have always struggled with the idea that Dean loves Cas romantically. And unlike some people, it isn't really based on his sexuality. I just don't think that Dean values romantic love like most people do. He values family more than anything. Even saving people always comes down to keeping families together, because his was torn apart. He has stated this sentiment several times throughout the series. He never expresses a desire for a romantic partner or marriage. He only ever expresses a desire for a family. Even with Lisa, she only became a person he dreamed about having a normal life with after he found out she had a son. In the beginning of the episode in which she is introduced, he is only interested in going there to hook up. So, I think Dean loves Cas and sees him as part of his family which is the highest form of love in Dean's mind even if other people don't see it that way. So, while I am not saying you are getting hung up on it, because I really agree that it is a fun relationship to imagine about. I think it's nice to acknowledge that Dean has already loved Cas in the most profound way he knows. (Although, I freely admit this may be a biased opinion. As I deeply identify with Dean's childhood trauma and characterization, and do not place huge value in life on romantic relationships.)

CROWLEY IS OFF THE BLOOD! You keep going on about this, but Crowley has said several times that he's kicked it and we've never seen him use again once 'Blade Runners' was done.

ETA, I take it back, we did see Crowley use blood after 'BR's. But we hadn't seen him use it in awhile.

In the B-plot, which is the characters' development arc/plot, for many seasons we've seen these boys' journeys through Dean's lens. In most seasons Dean is the lens through which we view the show’s events. Dean’s emotional links to the A-plot and his relationships with both Cas and Sam are what make up the B-plot.
For the first time, the show makes it uncomfortable to side with Dean (unless you like the fact that Dean will force his will on Sam to keep him alive). Dean starts down a dark path of self-hatred the likes of which the show has never delved into before to such a striking degree. This self-hatred structurally leads to or manifests itself as the Mark of Cain and Dean’s decision to take it on without warning of consequence represents a significant turning point in the show’s ongoing structure. And for the first time in Supernatural, in my opinion, Dean begins to carry the mytharc - the A-plot, instead of Sam. As a Dean fan, I am so loving the shift in this phase.

Season 9.
In the fandom when this season was airing, we called this season Season Divine, and season 8 as Season Gr8 (pronounce as Great).
Excluding the Kripke/Gamble eras, I ranked 9 below 8. I just love, love the mytharcs (the A-plot) for both seasons, but comparing the 2 seasons' MOTW episodes (the C-plot), S8 is much superior to 9 in my opinion. The MOTW episodes for me pulled S8 higher in my ranking.
As per Carver's quote: The very best of [the stand-alone episodes] is reflecting what’s going on internally with our boys. It’s always that you’re using a different story to tell a bigger truth for our boys [Sam, Dean, and Cas].

The biggest problem with this season was too many storylines, most of them intriguing but given no chance to become more than cannon fodder. Abbadon is unquestionably one of the best and most formidable villains; I sometimes think she even intimidated the writers, lol.
As for Dean and Cas, it was an equation with many variables the longer the show continued and I'm not going to spoil it for you. Guess I would just say that like Sam and Dean's journey from the beginning, the possibility of Destiel rode that same crazy roller coaster, end of subject ( for now). Season 10 is full of surprises. I am sooo looking forward to your reactions - mostly - the rest of the time I'll just sit quietly holding the tissue box for us. Come on, you know that's SOP for every season 😘

i completely agree, abaddon could've had a full season of being the big bad & metatron could've had a whole season too

To me the problem with season 9 is too many things were happening. They were trying to address the fall out of Sn8, but starting I think having too many main storylines. I know there were narratives that had to be set up, but too many threads to get there. For a while I never know what the main plot was. It seemed to morph as the season went on. Maybe I just compare it too much to Sn 8 which I thought was really good.

Can’t wait to see what you think about demon dean! Also the 200th episode is coming up and you’re gonna love it XD
In terms of finding out more about how dean feels about cas, I’d say— look out for parallels between dean/cas and romantic couples (particularly in season 10– y’all know what I’m talking about) and that might give you some more information. Also there may or may not be a particular so-heavy-on-the-subtext-that-it’s-barely-even-subtext moment/speech that’s really fundamental to deans side of the destiel stuff
I’m so excited to see what you think of season 10– it has my favourite overarching storyline and it’s definitely an emotional one (good luck!)

There is something in one of your questions responses that is really funny and i will comment on it after you watch the 200th
Also i want to point out Gadreel last talks with Cas.
Cas has always cared about redeeming himself but Gadreel told him that they should not forget their mission to protect humanity. Because he let that drive consume him and make him do horrible things that hurt everyone.

i was nodding & smiling the whole time, i agree with literally everything u said, i completely agree that cas would've done the same for sam too, however the question isn't would he or wouldn't he, the question is why the show seems to always single out dean when cas is making any tough decision, it's the man who would be king, lucifer rising & goodbye stranger all over again, they could've had naomi make cas kill both the winchesters over & over again instead of singling out dean, they could've had hannah say don't lose it over a couple of humans, they could've had metatron say to save the winchesters etc, storytelling & tv isn't as random as reality, there are patterns & intentional writing, i can't just say oh it just accidently happens to be dean every single time for no reason, cas saying dean & i share a more profound bond in no way means that he doesn't care for or love sam, it's not a competition, it's just different kinds of relationships, just like i am sure that sam loves dean more than he does cas, it's not a bad thing. Metatron is defiantly not the only one who thinks cas is in love with dean, hell he's not even the only angel who thinks that, Balthazar, Naomi, Hester to name a few so we are in good company, well, except most of them are dicks lol, i absolutely love watching your journey trying to figure out where dean & cas's relationship is going, it reminds me of the fandom when the show was airing, it was half the fun seeing people going through the ups & downs lol, i can't wait for next season, you're not ready

My rating for season 9 is probably 8/10. Season 4, 5 and 6 are above 9. So I'd place it as 4th best season for me so far.
